When I was at school some 25 years ago the world seemed really dynamic and fast changing. Concorde made transatlantic travel a possibility in three hours, man had landed on the moon and soon we were promised that we could travel there freely, perhaps by telepod. all illnesses would soon be eradicated and if they weren't, no proble, have your brain cryogenicly frozen. we would not eat meals, but pills, oil would have run out but there would be flying cars and we would be working far less. Now, I know there has been progress but it seems to take as long to get anywhere as ever, people still largely die in their 70's a person of 100 is a rarity where I was told we would all live beyond this. So, how did my teachers get away with this and where is it all leading?

Do you honestly fail to see the technological progress that has been made in the past 25 years?

Compare treatments for diseases. Vastly improved.

Electronics aren't recognisable (I wouldn't even know you, OP, existed without this wonderful internet).

25 years ago, one had to look for discarded porno mags in hedgerows. Now one can view whatever filth they desire in an instant with any internet connected device with a browser.

Computers are amazing, incredible progress no doubt. I'm looking at some other things though and it leaves me thinking perhaps I was expecting too much. I'm working longer, just as susceptible to illness, it takes a long to get anywhere and I still live in a house and wear a suit! Lots and lots of changes but not the quantum leaps I expected.

The internet has given us PistonHeads. We therefore work less.

And I've not seen a file of paperwork in... well, I can't remember when last I saw a file of paperwork, especially since I have the laptop and an amazing, seemingly endless amount of space in which to save virtual documents in something called a cloud.

I looked out the window earlier and a horrid electric vehicle trundled past in the street below. Ok, so it wasn't flying but the owner seemed to be doing just fine without burning oil to get about.

I took a call earlier and I used this marvellous fandangled device without wires or cables. It's called a mobile phone and it really seems to be catching on.

The progress we're making as a civilisation is pretty darned impressive and although we're not getting free trips to the moon, we're able to cross the English channel without getting out of our cars, or engage in a host of activities which hadn't even been imagined half a century ago.

In my opinion, the creation of the KitKat Chunky was the pinnacle of progress. Since then, it's all gone downhill. frown

yes

The progress has mainly been in Mans access to Porn. First came Video Players, then the DVD, then the internet, and now grot is accessable on your Ipad, your Laptop, even you mobile phone, 24-7 from anywhere in the world.

Don't forget sex dolls. Actually, based on some of the women I've been with, the dolls have more life.

Try chatting the women up instead of drugging them.

And achieve what exactly? If I try that, they either leave or slap me.

Dear sir. I request evidence of recently devoured Chunky.

I had a mint on in London. Was even nicer than the normal one!

Have you ever tried it? They come out with a non stop stream of drivel, you have to sit there pretending to be interested in there 'career' ( as a temp receptionist ) or there friends relationship problems ( who really gives a **** )

Seems all the progression has been in the realms of Micky taking and over-sized confectionary.

Anyway, I think the point is Concorde was very obvious and visible to the layman, "oooohh look a ***ing great big pointy loud plane" whereas the quatumn leaps in the power and design of micro circuitry, nano technology and DNA/genetic engineering just are'nt as easy to notice. Progress has been massive, perhaps the issue is that whilst out technology has rapidly evolved.....we haven't.
