How long before adverts for on-line betting sites is banned?
The whole online gambling thing confuses me. There seems to be a plethora of adverts and websites for people to login to and throw their money away. I'm surprised it's allowed at all, let alone positively glamorised through advertising.
Should it be banned? After all, what good can come of gambling, you're always gonna lose? This must cause financial misery for thousands when they've spunked all their cash!

I must admit - I wonder the same thing (I actually work in gaming - website work for on of the biggest (the biggest?) players). It's a sign of the recession, I think, when gaming takes off the way it has done. There are all the international markets opening up too. Huge business.
I think that making sure that problem gamblers are pointed towards gamble aware and allowing self-exclusion help a bit to placate the government. Big employer too.

Yes . . . I've been wondering why on Earth it's permitted. I can JUST about see that there is legitimitate core business 'need' for payday lenders - about the other 50% of adverts on some channels - but online gambling?
Especially as the adverts show it as a sociable, glamorous, activity (that woman in the one where the various kitchen appliances turn into gaming machines is s-o-o-o sexy).

An old thread I know but the number of gambling adverts seem to be going through the roof at the moment.
I like to have the odd bet, and watch a lot of sport and you just cannot watch sport now without being subject to these ads.

Sure it's a free country and people can obviously choose whether or not to act on these ads but I think there an argument to be made that these ads should only be allowed after say 9pm.
The payday loan ads are just as bad.

But its not TV ads that are a problem for me - it is YouTube channels which are almost certainly watched by a younger audience which seem to full of gambling adverts or sponsorship.
If I had a young child I'd be concerned because their concept of gambling and exposure to adverts will be far far greater than a child of even 10 years ago.
