Yodel Couriers
Discussion
Well, here's a post that goes against the grain...
Been selling stuff on ebay recently - mostly car parts that have been cluttering up the garage. All have been quite big, heavy bits too - for example, an alloy wheel and tyre, a steering rack, a complete winch...all around 20 kilos or so, and big parcels.
Buyers on ebay have been a bit reluctant to pay big postal costs, as I have in the past been using Royal Mail or Parcel Force, with full tracking, insurance and guaranteed delivery times.
Also, for some of these bigger parcels, Parcel Force and other couriers either won't quote on the cost as the parcels are too big / heavy, or the quote is silly money (like over 50 quid).
So - been using Yodel. With insurance, so far I haven't paid much over about £13. The couriers have turned up at my house to collect them on the day each time with no problem, and they've all been subsequently delivered within 24 hours, intact and in one piece, and on time.
That's not bad, is it?
So - here's a post to support Yodel - for me at least, they've been cheap, easy to deal with, and done what I required them to do.
MAybe they're getting better?

Yodel are terrible. An item I received damaged had to be returned to sender. The sender arranged for it to be collected by Yodel. When they turned up they asked why the item to collect wasn't packaged up. Erm, it is. In exactly the same packaging it was sent to me in. Rubbish plastic wrap on a plastic stand. No wonder it got damaged on the way to me. Next thing I know Yodel guy at the door starts shouting to his mate in the van about no box and edging back towards the van. They just drive off without even giving me a chance to find some bubble wrap or explain they wouldn't be taking it.
Doesn't sound very professional by the driver but they don't have to collect something inadequately packaged because they would be liable if it was subsequently damaged in transit. They also are not allowed to wait while someone boxes up a parcel, no carrier is. However they could have at least explained this to you.
Yodel are doing a much better job this year in our experience, delivery performance is back up where it needs to be vs. competitors at a similar price point.

Sitting in my kitchen, having a fishfinger sandwich one day last week, I hear the garden gate open (aka: bang against the back wall of the house). Thinking it'd been blown open by the wind, I started to open the patio door only to be confronted by a Yodel courier, sneakily putting a parcel behind the gate.
Cue "sorry mate, I rang the bell, but no one answered" b
ks. No you bloody didn't you cheeky b'stard, you just didn't want to faff about with waiting for an answer because you didn't think anyone was in, so you went straight to dumping it round the back. Lucky I was in too, or the parcel would've been soaked in the rain - not ideal when it contained electronic items, eh?
They weren't the only culprits, to be fair, but I haven't found any threads about dodgy Next couriers, or DPD, but both of them have tried the same trick. Even Royal Mail do it, card through the door, 'collect from sorting office' despite the fact that I'm currently not working so am always in if I'm expecting a delivery.
Couriers in general are a complete pain in the rump. I ran a military post room for a while, and during my tenure, the RLC postal authority for the Army sent out instructions to post rooms telling us NOT to accept courier deliveries on behalf of service personnel, because there was no way of returning items without incurring cost to the public purse if for some reason the serviceman couldn't be traced. Life went from being hell, dealing with 7/8 different couriers a day, to the relative serenity of only having to accept Royal Mail and Parcelforce deliveries. Bliss. Apart from the whining squaddies, complaining that they didn't get their stuff.

I understand this but the whole point it was being returned was due to the fact it was damaged in transit in the first place. They could have smashed it into a million pieces on the return leg, it would have made no difference as the item was only fit to be binned in any event. The supplier was aware of this. They were also happy to deliver it in the inadequate packaging it came in but for some reason did not want to collect it in the same packaging.

Contrary to what most people say, I haven't had any problems with them.
I don't know what most people say but they were a nightmare for me. Ended up costing quite a bit never got a refund I ended up driving 100 miles and delivering an item at my expense. If it goes wrong they are a shambles nobody to talk to then when you do it's the wrong person who can't do anything but they assure you that you will be contacted but you don't.
One of the worst companies I have ever used. If I were emperor of the universe they would all be put to death.
I am glad you have had a good experience, but I however have not. On 4 different occasions (Amazon like to use them).
I won't go into detail as it makes my blood pressure rise (and I am lazy) but apparently in the middle of Aberdeen my place is undeliverable! Not to mention the fact that they managed to leave a card in out letter box saying that they tried to deliver when we were in all day and they didn't even ring the f
king buzzer!!!

You get what you pay for.
That being said, on the 5 times I've used them (twice sending parcels, thrice receiving parcels) they have been perfectly OK. Parcels delivered on-time, no obvious signs of damage/mis-handling etc.
It always makes me twitchy when I see parcels passed between driver and driver's mate/b
h much how a rugby ball is passed, likewise parcels/boxes that arrive that look like they have been single-handedly involved in a scrum against the whole England Rugger team.
Thankfully, Yodel have been OK. For now. Hermes is another "budget" brand that I found via parcel2go.

Ive been quite lucky with them. Although the last few people used MyHermes to send me stuff!! The one time I wasnt in, he checked my bins, noticed the recycling one empty, put it in there, a brick on the lid, and put a note through the door!
Meant I had it when I got home, dry, secure, and told where it was. Happy with that

For the past year I was using Parcelforce / Royal Mail for all my Ebay stuff. Overall they were very good but the prices were starting to really hurt my income. After reading lots on here about couriers (Hermes / Yodel / Parcl to go etc) was very reluctant to use them but this week Ive started to use DPD / Interlink
So far im amazed at the service.
Parcelforce 48 - £12.92 for recorded 2 day delivery
Interlink - Next day tracked delivery for £6.
Unbelievable. Should have done it months ago.
