Hi all,

I want to send £40 to a friend in China.

I was looking at some of teh "on-line" money transfer options.

But having never done this before, I would like to ask the opinions of the many.

I will be sending the £40 to a personal bank account in China.

What has any folk done on here regarding small money transfer ?

Thanks.

PayPal would be easiest and safest.

Western Union or one of their competitors.

I'm pretty sure Paypal is available (maybe limited though) in China - other than that, can't you just do an International Bank Transfer?

Buy a small paperback book. Stick either RMB notes if you have them or 3 x USD 20 notes in the pages. Airmail the book.

Hi all,

Many thanks for the suggestions so far.

I think Western Union, or one of their competitors is looking best so far.

If I do a direct money transfer from my bank, it costs me £17.00

I might try to find a local WU agent, and walk in with £40 plus come extra for fees.

I don't fancy doing a bank transfer to WU, with my own bank account, I am still too careful, and would be worried.

If your friend has a bank account can't you just transfer the money to them from your bank account?

IIRC you'll need the IBAN number but it's pretty easy.

Is your "friend" an attractive lady who you "met" online, and is having some sort of one-off crisis which will likely re-occur, only with more money involved? tongue out

Well, you couldn't be further from the truth,,,,,,,

I married my Chinese wife some time ago, and what a great lady she is.

So on this occasion, the answer is no

I don't know if Transferwise will do renminbi, but I've used them before and they cost pennies to use.
