What the heck is this?

My better half found this when walking along a beach near Aberdeen.

We both disagree on what it is and, after asking around, there still is no consensus on what it is. Some say it is a boat propeller, to washing machine impeller, to mortar guidance fin.

It is under 2 inches long. It has two marks on one fin and the outline of a circle (mostly eroded) on another. The fins have been damaged but they don't have a uniform shape. One end is flat (the end I would think was facing forward, if it was a propeller) and the back has an indentation that would attach it to something else.

Any ideas on what it is? Extra points if you can tell me what the marks refer to. If it is part of ordinance, it would be interesting to know what type, age etc.

the markings clearly show its a class C not a class B so he will not die from it, just become infertile and have permanent erectile dysfunction

I think ordnance, looks like the 'tail section' of some sort of heavyweight mortar-type thingy.

In fact, if I had to put money on I would go for: Exploding Thingy. (about 5:1).

Looks like something from an RAF guided bomb maybe an old Paveway II. RAF Leuchars is around 70 miles south. My best guess.

It's too small to be the tail section a Paveway, I'd go with the idea of mortar as others have said.

No expertise here but it could be an arming vane for an aerial bomb.

The idea was that the 'fan' spins as the bomb drops, arming the fuse after the bomb has left the aircraft.

Don't see how it could be any kind of propeller or fan - the 'blades' all look to be straight so nothing to suck / blow / displace water or air.

Fin from some kind of mortar / other dropped boom-boom item would be my guess as well.

Did you think about dropping it in a bowl of coke (the drink) overnight to clean it up a bit?
