Never meet your heroes

As per the famous saying, I ran into Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) in Chiswick yesterday.
He made out I had him confused with someone else, then when he did acknowledge, he walked off. Don't know if it was because I had a police car behind me or whether he is that way inclined towards the fans? I understand that everyone has off days, and this may have been one for him, but as another of my friends, who is also quite famous says "I remember what it was like to be the fan, wanting to meet your idol, that's why I always stop for a pic or autograph"
Anyone else have stories of being royally disappointed?

I feel fortunate to have a healthy amount of self confidence and rightly or wrongly fail to recognise famous people as my heroes or superiors, although I always treat people respectfully and courtiously. I probably wouldn't approach someone famous if I recognised them, as generally I prefer to be left alone myself when I'm not at work.
I have met a few famous people none the less. They were all pleasant enough to talk to and a good pal and I even entertained some famous people for a night on the town following some charity work they did during the day. It was an inpromtu thing, probably helped along by our relative indifference to their fame.

I'm the same. Don't/can't get excited about famous people at all. Not interested in them, having my photo taken with them or getting their autograph.I went to a friends 50th birthday over the weekend, Les Dennis and another semi celeb were there, I am friends with the other semi celeb, didn't even know he was until someone told me but that's another story. I couldn't give a dam if they're famous or not. On the other hand, one of the people we went to the party with was slobbering down Les's neck, arms round and just being a pest and demeaning him self.

It's not neccusarily about hero's though.
It's about people who would be interesting.
I'd pay some money to have dinner with George Lucas for example.
I've paid to go to conventions where I've met various actors and directors.
I'd actually rather do that where they are expecting to meet people than jump in them in the street when they might be busy.
I wouldn't say 'hero' though.

Although not my 'thing' I can understand that. At least in those situations the 'celebrity' will mentally be at work, rather than feel like they've been collared by some stranger when just trying to nip to the shop for a couple of onions to make a curry.I wouldn't say 'hero' though.
There are people I would certainly like to meet, not because they are famous but because they are likely to be interesting people. Whether they are famous or not has nothing to do with it.
The last vaguely famous person I met was Andy Green, world land speed record holder. He was interesting to meet because of what he had to say about how you learn to drive a supersonic car, I was hardly going to feign disinterest because he could be regarded as famous.

Hell even a regular celeb like Chris Evans or someone-given the opportunity you'd not want to talk to these people, to hear first hand how they got to their top if their game? Get over yourselves!
