How do I ship big bits of car (breaking/ebay)

So, the gearbox has self destructed, car is beyond economic repair, I'm thinking of breaking it as it's hardly worth anything in one piece but probably worth a few hundred in bits, I could say buyer collects parts but that limits the potential buyers so does anyone have a recommendation of the easiest way to ship stuff like seats, wheels/tyres, engine.

Paisley Freight seems to have geared up for this market and will handle almost anything

But shopping around, whilst more hassle is way cheapest. Every courier has different T&Cs and what may cost a tenner with one will be 3.50 with another. Post Office can be good at times and lots of local shops offer drop off services which might be easier for you than waiting for a collection.

Engine will need to be on a pallet, not sure about seats, for everything else there's copious bubble wrap!

Location dependant, don't dimiss the collection option.

My mate broke his MX-5 on the drive (house is in Studley, Warwickshire), listed the parts on Ebay as collection only and sold 90% of the car. It depends on the car and where you are located, but people are usually willing to travel a good 50 miles to get cheap bits.

I once bought a Vectra bumper on eBay and paid for shipping. It arrived with an address label on it. No other wrapping at all on it.

Check out Parcel Monkey.

Used them for loads of bits, from a full set of suspension to a front M3 bumper. Put in the dimensions and weight (you can use a little artistic license to check out the price differences), select an option (i.e. next day, 48 hours etc.) and you're away.

I use them all the time.

I've got my old Sports Cat & Turbo Downpipe from my old Focus ST to sell sometime. Will check these out. Finding large enough packaging is going to be tricky.

Think collection only is going to be best for wheels (without tyres).

Big Vote for Hermes
Collect & deliver, reliable, cheaper than the PO and no queueing.
Broke my Volvo 940 Estate on my drive got more for it than selling whole, + £100 from the breaker.
People travelled over 100 mile for some bits

As I break a few mx5 per year do this pretty regular. As ive been in the mx5 crowd for a few years built up a good group of mx5 owners close by so I would say 60% are local owners who will pick the parts up and for me it easier.
Other 40% is for shipping parts out in the country do send the ocassional parts to Europe but that will be recorded delivery.

Good tip body panels aren't worth sending out I always say collection only on them also engines/gearboxes etc pick up only too. Also anything over 15kg will be the same too.

Under that so suspension parts/interior bits you get the idea are easy to send find box big enough rap up with bubble rap and pack it up. Take measurements and weight, and post code/address/contact number and name from the person buying the parts and price up delivery services loads of good sites I use interparcel. Can range from next day delivery around £10ish or 3 day delivery around half the price.

Very small parts I mean really small post office is best.

Payment I only use pay pal nothing else never had a problem over the 2-3 years ive been doing it. Will have 1 or 2 issues but majority of sales never a problem. Top tip use owners forums most have classifieds systems which will net you genuine owners, also facebook groups are very popular tools now free and will further increase your market.

Its a lot of work but worth it with the right car.
