Found war medals

I have found these medals and dog tags in the garden in my digs I would like them to be returned to the correct owner any ideas how I do that?
The small medal is a tug of war medal 96 stone 2nd place 1948.
Please can we find the correct owner.
Found in Harold hill Essex.

That is a WW1 Medal and dog tag, you can find the owner from the name/number on a military records site, I have some similar from my great great granddad that I got given with my granddads medals when he died, then it would be a case of when you have a name of tracing the family in a similar manner I guess.

I have both my granddads medals, currently being put into display cases with photos by the local picture framer.

Presumably dumped by a thief? Depending how long they have been there the police might have a crime record for it.

That's what I was thinking, what's the story about finding them, were they buried, or did it look like they were thrown over a wall?

The name on the dogtags is Groves W so unfortunately I don't think there is any connection.
