Ordered an item as a Christmas present, courier have repeatedly lied saying i've rejected the goods twice when they haven't been to the house then they admit they can't find house, so i contact company i've bought goods off as you can't contact Hermes direct, i give instructions, courier office staff phone me at home to confirm address and say will be delivered on 29th Nov, by chance i saw courier on drive looking through his car, by time i'd opened door he'd scarpered.
Phone Company i've bought from they phone me back on the 1st Dec to say Hermes have lost parcel and they will send a replacement. I get an email on 4th saying it will be delivered on 4th, nothing turns up I phone company to say Hermes are still fking about with new parcel, to be told we haven't dispatched replacement yet!

So basically they've said i refused delivery twice - bks

they then can't find house - at last the truth

they then have detailed instructions to find house and confirm them, they lose the parcel - idiots!

5 days later they find the parcel - strange!

then 2 more times are unable to deliver despite company i ordered goods from phoning me to confirm that they have given Hermes detailed instructions and Hermes have promised delivery today - bks!

I have tried using them recently, I got frustrated and booked DHL today even though they are 3 times the price but I get the item collected and delivered to me in the same day (monday)...

Oh and total cost of delivery is now almost as much as the item! (still a fair saving on the new price though)

unfortunately , if we want cheap / free delivery , this is what we get . i used hermes once , i booked them online through a third party . when i saw the rusty old van the courier turned up to collect my parcel , my heart sank . i did not want my business represented by such an unprofessional looking company .
you may think i am shallow , but they were the cheapest by a small margin . they delivered the parcel on time and my customer had no complaint.

Refused delivery doesn't actually mean refused don't take it personally. Its probably the default thing the delivery driver puts when he can't deliver...

I did some contracting/consulting work for DHL and they never used the mail/parcel division because at 50% discount they were still too expensive and a bit crap. Stuff used to arrive via Citysprint or CityLink.

In my experience, Yodel are in a class of their own for incompetance. They failed several times to locate my home, which hasn't moved in the 50 years since it was built, lied about leaving calling cards and then lied about me refusing to accept delivery.

I find Yodel to be the worst. If I know a firm uses them, I will try to buy elsewhere.

I find Royal Mail to be the best if you use Special Delivery. Its very expensive and there is no GPS tracking but IME they are very reliable and the chances of getting it there on first attempt are high.

My missus arrived home late this afternoon from a busy day lunching and shopping and there was a parcel delivered by Hermes that was soaking wet propped up against the front door. I was home all day and up until about 1PM had answered the door several times to callers who'd rung the bell (which is loud and can be heard by those ringing it).

Our local Yodel driver is fantastic!

He delivers all of our stuff on his way home in the evening, as he knows we will be in and won't have to take them back.

As is our local Hermes driver - courier companies reputation depend a lot on their local guys. Unfortunately most of the time they employ any numpty rather than someone that can do a job.

I've had issues in the past with Parcelforce - I was waiting for a Scalextric set to be delivered. I saw the van pull up, driver get out, open the gate, run up the path & come to the door. By the time I got to the door, he was sprinting across the garden, through the gate and back in his van. Waiting on the floor was not a Scalextric, but a "Sorry you weren't in" card.

I agree with tis statement wholeheartedly.

Last week I bought some clothes on-line. Placed one order & then decided that I wanted some stuff so I placed another.

I paid for express next day delivery for one of the orders as I was going away for a couple of days so needed the stuff fairly quickly.

I ordered the next day delivery items on Thursday morning so expected delivery next day - as per the advert & the delivery cost of £5.95.

To my horror when I received the order confirmation I saw that the delivery company was Yodel......

The other order, with free delivery withn 3 - 5 working days was to be delivered by DPD.

I received m free delivery items on Friday of last week.

Today I am still awaiting the next day delivery parcel which was to have been delivered by Yodel last Friday!!!

The delivery tracker says that the parcel is still in their warehouse.

'Customer Service' reckon that the parcel was delivered last Saturday although they don't know where it was delivered too!!!

Jokes.

I worked for Hermes as a courier, it was a bit of a shock ,you use your own van{or car as many do at hermes} it's 50p per parcel!which is frustrating when you can't find an address as time ticking away as you try to get 50p for that parcel.
I did think it was a company along the lines of Yodel, but it's nothing of the sort.Even the depot was owned by a local guy who also run the place as storage for other items and his van projects, hermes just rent off him and pay him to sort parcels for each van,he had a second job as their fee was't really enough!
parcels are slow to get out,as you collect today, they stay overnight in your van at where ever you keep it,and in the morning you drop off at depot, then they get collected by lorry{yes not owned by hermes but a contract owner/driver}he takes to main area depot, then next day they go to areas for delivery ,so 3 days before they even get to allocated areas, hence allow 5 days for delivery.
the van drivers are locals, and do their best.after 1 week i quit as 60 parcels {£30 plus a bit more collecting parcels as well, once fuel came out was hardly worth it},even the manageress said"it's not for everyone,it's mostly people who got a few hours spare and want extra pocket money"
I don't think they are any worse at delivering than any other out there,it's just they do it very cheaply!
and the other issue "if you have time off you have to arrange cover of your route?so I need a standby if I'm ill, lol.

Yea accepting a Hermes delivery is probably high risk given that it is probably being delivered by someone who is, shall we say, a non courier type.

That said, the advantage I have found with them is that if a delivery is missed the personal will often leave a mobile and you can ring them and re-arrange a better delivery - bit more flexible and personal than a alternative of having to go to a depot.

I worked for yodel as an 'in between', and this really is the issue.

I actually ended up working for free for the last 2 weeks due to being forced to take too many parcels and then being charged for failed deliveries.

Obviously I didn't pay, but I didn't get payed either.

DPD actually have a more realistic system where the 'puter calculates routes and times and gives you a one hour slot. Can be frustrating when it gets it wrong and the driver has to wait for the countdown on the handheld unit before he can let you sign for it.

Hermes really is scraping the barrel for a courier. The locals can be really good like our lady who knows we don't mind the stuff thrown over the gate. But they struggle to find couriers because of the crap pay and end up with some really bad/inexperienced staff who give them their deserved reputation.

Yep. That's what I find good about DPD. When you go on the website it says something along the lines of: "Bob is on delivery no. 7, 4.5 miles away. You are delivery no.12 and Bob is 20 minutes away."

At least you know roughly when to look out for Bob.

As a powerfully built company director who sells online via three websites plus eBay, I would never degrade myself to using Hermes or Yodel.

All of our parcels go out with Interlink Express (part of DPD), so our customers get the 1 hour delivery window and live GPS tracking.

We used to use UK Mail, but Interlink gets rid of the phone calls saying "when is my parcel going to arrive".

As others have said, If I see a website uses the Yodel/Hermes delivery service, I'll buy elsewhere.
