Is it me or is eBay going from bad to worse, the multiple choice listings are awful, 3 times recently I've given up and bought elsewhere, 1st time it was SD cards, 2nd time it was a sky remote and lastly a phone case. On each occasion there were so many listings that you have to choose from a multitude of options, wtf I wanted a sky hd remote, they are listed from 99p but when you open that, the 99p choice is just a battery for one?
I was looking for some packing envelopes yesterday and there are listings ( one add) that go from £1 to £1500 ffs.
Also I've never understood how they get away with also charging you commission on the postage as well at the same time asking you to keep postage costs down.

I haven't really had any problems with it, but it does seem to have got to the point recently where e-bay is rarely the cheapest place to buy (new) things.

Quite often what I do is search on Ebay, find something that will do what I want and then google it, quite often find a cheaper source, but unless the price difference is worth it I usually go ahead and buy it through ebay, easier and quicker that way, plus easier to deal with non-delivery etc.

Really? That's your problem - that you have to open up an advert and pick the options you want? And were you really expecting a sky hd remote for 99p?

Sounds more like user issues than ebay issues...

No, it's crap software. if I search for 'Sky Remote' I expect to see listings for Sky Remotes, not for batteries. in case you haven't noticed, they are not the same thing.

Yes that is the problem, if I want to browse someone's entire stock I'll go on their website or walk in their shop. It's one thing if they're selling an item that comes in different sizes or colours but are all the same price, not ok if when you go to the listing you have to go through their entire range.

That's funny - I just search for "sky remote" on ebay - page 1, 50 results, 40 of which were for the remote ONLY, with 10, probably from the same seller, with the option of the remote and or batteries.

Not that hard to change a drop down if you really wanted to... much less effort than going to the shops though isn't it?

Its because people put sky remote in the description for the battery's to try and get more views. Its the same as the scammy nature of putting not Alfa/**insert a n other car make here** on a car ad so when somebody searches for an Alfa they also get an ad for a golf or whatever isn't an Alfa.

surely you should be able to work out that the 99p is for batteries and the £5.99/£6.49/£9.99 is for the actual remote

proper first world problem

I can work it out but it's a carp direction for the listings to go, the item that's 99p isn't in the title as for sale, why not have all cars listed at £1.20 and have that's only for each litre of fuel that's in the tank!!
Or every tv at 99p but that's for the aerial lead for it to work!

It is a bit of a first world problem, but it is annoying as well. Car parts are particularly annoying - I don't know if it's down to the "compatibility list" part of the listing, but I have a saved search for Firenza bits and it's annoying having to page through listing after listing of sidelight bulbs and bee-sting roof aerials. Oh, and people listing throttle position sensors and other stuff that just has no relevance for a seventies Vauxhall (and no, I did look to see whether it's for the Oldsmobile car of the same name).

And the multiple options list - searching for Citric Acid, it's pretty much all the same so the choice is down to price including P&P, but it's difficult to compare because people that sell stuff like that in bulk let you choose the weight inside the listing, so the "sort by" option only works for the cheapest size.

I actually think eBay is great.

I use it for both buying and selling and actually regret not getting "in" to it years ago.

The problem are the people on it. It seems to attract so many dishonest people, buyers and sellers.

The joys!

Never had an issue with Ebay and overal found it a good way to buy and sell secondhand goods. There are idiots on there and I have had a few where people decided not to pay.

As someone already mentioned its not Ebay's fault but the sellers. They add lots into the title bar, and options to ensure they get lots of hits to there listings. Its a free text field so not much ebay can do. Yes its a pain, but not really the big issue your making out.

Indeed, don't know why people grumble so much........ I think it's recognised that ebay is the place of best exposure (in terms of customer hits) compared to any other medium. Pay your money make your choice!!!
I'd rather pay a bit more commission, more likelihood of a sale, and a higher sale price. I suspect I'm not the only one considering the success of Ebay.
