This reminds me of a kid at school. His dad made a living in motorsport (at a fairly high level). Anyway, I always used to see him, his younger brother and his dad walking round identical sponsored outfits (caps and all, even shoes).

No danger of that happening to me, in either direction. I have no children and my own father is about as un-petrolhead as you can get; sees motorsport on the tv and moans about how dangerous it is (ditto with anything exciting (eg skiing (ooh! the cost to the NHS!))), couldn't give a stuff about cars etc (he'll buy expensive cars, but then wreck them through neglect, cutting corners on costs (eg. remoulds, single wiper blades or shocks etc).

He's pretty well contemptuous of my interest in cars and motorbikes, I think. I'm not allowed to drive their 1.4 diesel, auto Yaris because (and I quote) I have "a racing drivers mentality" and because "I will rev the engine". I'm 47 years old.

Having said that he also thinks I have a "weak character" because I have friends and I go to the pub with them; my "need" to have friends is "weak". jester
