Accidentally locked my keys in my car today, so phoned my mrs to bring the spare. I keep it in a drawer in the bedside cabinet, where I keep all those important bits and pieces, such as phone chargers, spare E30 M3 gear knob, various batteries, screws, padlock, glasses, remote control, wiring etc etc. It's all stuff I know I'm bound to need some day and even if I don't, I can't bear to throw it out. Anyway, my mrs says it's all rubbish and needs to be binned. She also says it's not normal to have a drawer full of indiscriminate bits! I thought everyone had a drawer like this?

Perfectly natural.

In fact now there's an industry dedicated to it.

Bin the missus. Keep the drawer.

Any real man has a junk drawer. Or 6.

Personally I keep all my spare keys in a safe. Prior to having a safe I kept everything behind a false panel.

Bedside cabinets / kitchen drawers must be prime fodder for any thief!

I dont have a man drawer, I have a garage

I used to think this way however a friend of mine had his house broken into, keys stolen and car taken away in the night. They didn't hear anything upstairs. With three little kids he was glad they found the keys easily.

Bang on. Always keep our car keys out of sight of windows (and letterbox), but in very easy view once inside the house. If you want my cars, please just take them without waking me up holding a knife to my daughters throat.....

I completely agree with that viewpoint, its only a car at the end of the day but for my situation noone is going to break into my house to steal an octavia estate. IMO these sort of breaks ins are normally targeted for specifically for the car.

My neighbour thought that until he was broken into, they left his 6 month old BMW 7-series and took his wife's 4yr old grey Audi A4 estate.....which was then used for armed robbery within 24 hours!

This tends to be my major problem......I've now got a double garage and an old school dining hall full of stuff.
