I had a minor accident about a year ago, resulted in a smashed wing mirror. It was the other guy's fault and all got sorted through insurance.

For the last 3 months I've been plagued by calls trying to get me to claim for injury. Probably on average 4 calls a day. I've tried everything, denied all knowledge, said the person they're after is dead, wound them up a treat (which resulted in a tirade of abuse, accusing ME of wasting THEIR time!), but still I get them.

The calls come from different companies and different area codes. If I drop a call I'll often get another call immediately from a different area code. I'm not sure how they do it.

Any way of getting them to fk off? It's really beginning to bug me.

Don't answer calls unless you know the caller?

It's normally obvious it's one of these companies, however it's still a distraction even if i don't answer it, particularly when you get 5 in a day like today. And occasionally I'm expecting a call where I might not know the number, it's a work phone.

Block the numbers one by one.

I'm doing this with PPI calls at the moment.

I've had this. As well as the above, I found the silent treatment works quite well. Pick up, say nothing. If it's legit, they'll say hello; you can then decide if its work or if they can go on hold (pu phone down, back to work).

If I'm feeling vindictive I get them all excited and say "Yes, I have been in an accident. Yes, several of my family were also involved. Luckily the other side have admitted full liability"

Once they're drooling sufficiently I tell them that another claims firm phoned me a few days ago and I agreed to use them. If only they'd phoned sooner!

Childish, I know.....biggrin

I had those calls as well. I kept saying I wasn't injured and they still kept trying to get me to claim. One response I got was "do you not want money?" The calls went on for around 6 months if I recall correctly and they are infuriating.

What law was changed that has led to this industrialisation of immoral, criminal behaviour that the government seems to encourage? Can't we get it changed back?

everytime you get a call , save the number in your phone and for the first time name the contact IGNORE. Then , subsequent calls just add the number to the IGNORE contact. Pop into settings and most smart phones will allow you to block or ignore a certain contact.... hey presto. job done unless they are with held numbers , in which case the Small red button or voicemail is your friend !

The app true caller is your friend. Download. And within 1 ring it will tell you who is calling.
Then it is your choice to answer or not.

On Android phones you call permanently block the callers number after they have called - normally long hold on the number and "Add to reject list".

My solutions are threefold:

(1) If the number is a standard UK landline 01 or 02 and you have unlimited minutes on your phone contract then call them back at every opportunity. Waiting for your partner? Call them. On the throne? Call them. I've told the operators that I will call them 100 times for every time they call me. When the same agent has spoken to you for the umpteenth time they get the message.

(2) Google "PPI Callback" and put the number into their competitors number.

and finally (3). Change your attitude. Think of the call as a way to have fun if you are not doing something important. Wind them up with half believable claims and personal details: Your name? Hugh Jarris. Your email address? johnboytwelveinches@hotmail.com. Once on a lead the operator will believe anything at first. Think of being on the phone with them as a social service. Every minute you are on the phone stops them calling someone else.

As above. True caller is a great app. Blocks all known spam numbers. I've even got it to block anything starting with 0843 etc etc.

I went from 2-3 spam calls a day to less than 1 a week. Now after a year it's about 1 every 3 months.

This. I work nights, and long ago blocked any withheld or 08 number. Any of the companies that I use can contact me other ways if necessary (and usually do). Same for texts.

Four calls a day for three months. That's more than 360 calls!!

I'm going to say I don't believe you and you are grossly exaggerating.

That does seem extreme.

I had a bump 3 years ago, still getting calls now because I never claimed, one or two a week on average.

I just say, speak to my solicitor and hang up now.

If you ask them when it was or which accident they can't answer as they don't have the details, they just know you've been in an accident.

You're getting these calls off different companies, so no point in engaging in any discussion with them. Just hang up as soon as they identify themselves.

Nope, I certainly believe him. The amount I "used" to get was similar, blocked a load on my land line, similar on Mobile. (It is a works mobile, so Christ knows how they get hold of the no!)

Flipping annoying to say the least.

They must be linked in some way, if I pick up and hang up straight away I immediately get another call but its always a different area code.

I tend to get the calls in bursts, I'll get four a day for a few days, then they'll leave me alone for a couple of days, then back to four a day.

I'll try True Caller and blocking the numbers, they always call from a different number though.

They have all my details, name address, phone number, email address, name of third party, when the accident happened. They obviously got the details off my insurance co or accident management company.

I do believe that your own ins co sells the info to these sharks
