So fellow PHers, what are your predictions for the future? I'm talking 100+ years from now, or even thousands if you prefer.

I see an elite class of people living in huge domes on Mars, whilst the impoverished toil on the burnt out rock called earth, sending minerals and supplies up to Mars. Everything run and owned by a joint consortium comprising Google & Facebook, who have direct access to everybody's inner thoughts.

Thinking about it, a bit like it is now, but on Mars. laugh

I'm also picturing a preserved cyborg version of Simon Cowell hosting a show called 'Humiliate yourself or die' in which the contestants desperately degrade themselves to avoid death by laser.

I wouldn't be surprise if Elysium is pretty close to how things will pan out.

Global warming will have put an end to the 'winter tyres' thread.
The MX5 will be so expensive that it loses the status as the answer to everything.
Road tax will be based on the number of cupholders in a vehicle.
The PH 'upload an image ' will be out of beta, or is this one too far fetched?

Not much will have changed in a 100years, electronically it will have though - comms and computing power will be smaller and very powerful.
Cars will probably be mostly electric (yuk)
Air travel much the same, will not see the progress made in the last 100.
Possible visits to Mars but no pernament base - who would pay for that?

Europe will collapse under the strain of migration, civil unrest will rise due to ill feeling and totally different approaches to life in general, many lives are going to be lost.

cost of living will spiral out of control, the NHS will collapse.

the EU will ban gummy bears. This is the worst outlook of all.

Its not the cost of the mx5, its the size of the thing. Mazda launch a new, smaller sports car to replace the now Range rover sized MX5. Called the MX3, it has a very successful career until it becomes the size of a range rover sport, when a new, small, affordable sports car called an MX1 is launched.

By then, of course BMW are locked into a bitter courtroom battle as their range of M powered X cars, the M-x1, M-x3 and M-x5 are confused with the Mazda range.
Speaking of BMW, they have run out of alphabet and are now reproducing the E series of cars, but like the old UK numberplates, using the letter as a suffix, not prefix. So the 3 series is 30E, not E30 as in the 1980s. Their niche brand continues, but one embarrassing slip-up. Midway between the 2 series and 3 series is the 2.5. The M25, as the M car is launched, is laughed at in the UK. But Journos love it as it has lots of opportunity for road tests on the M25.

Aston approach their second century with great news: They find a new styling direction!!!

Every single room will have CCTV surveillance.

All phone conversations and data transfer will be recorded and scrutinised in 'real time'.

But don't worry, if you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to fearsmile

Oh yes, and tinfoil will be banned!

Our society will probably collapse this century.

Every great society inevitably collapses, regeneration is part of natural order it seems, and "modern" society has been close and probably saved only by the strategic ability to shift resources globally with relative ease wheras the aztecs, incas, romans, mayans, persians, egyptions, greeks, etc etc etc were comparitively isolated cultures, although the little of what we know of the fall of the great historical societies we have all the elements, widespread corruption, social decay, corrupt poor leadership, the general "not my problem" attitude of todays generation rather than feeling part of a society etc

I'm pretty cynical about a lot of things and progress is one of them..

Air travel in terms of speed has gone nowhere in the last 50 years. That has to change surely. A way to get through an airport without having to arrive three hours before your flight as well as flights that are both a lot faster but still affordable for the masses. I just don't think people will put up with the current offering in 20 years time let alone 100.

I don't think life expectancy will improve much, some diseases will be eradicated but others will take their place and lots of people seem to use healthcare as an excuse to abuse their body, I see an improvement in one being negated by the other.

Cars will change but they will still be recognisable as cars, doors, steering wheel, seats etc. I think electric vehicles will far outweigh petrol, legislation will take care of that.

Freedom of movement for oeople between countries will become much easier and normal. 5 years here, 5 years there and I think a lot more people will eschew working long hours, commuting etc for opting out of the "Rat race"

Relationships will be seen as much shorter term.

A lot of things that are currently criminal offences will be decriminalised, drugs for example, I think recreational use of lots will be accepted and not lead to users bring arrested.

Overall though in 50 years a hell of a lot if what we do now will still be going on with only marginal change.

If mars is terraformed and colonised eventually the colonists would want to split away from earth much like what happened with Britain and America sparking our first ever interplanetary war.
