Is it me? Am i getting too old? Or is the internet getting more difficult to navigate?

Ebay, pistonheads classifieds, the new chive app and others, they were all very easy but lately with every update they seem to take a step back.

What happened to user friendly. Want to sell something on Ebay and the "sell" button is the smallest thing on the screen.

Trouble is they design a lot of websites correctly the first time, so any 'improvements' they do later to justify their job results in making it worse.

I've worked in IT development for 15 years, all of it on web sites and web applications and I find some new sites a fking nightmare.

Halifax online banking used to have a boring looking "old fashioned" site, but it worked and was easy to use. They have updated it now, you can't find what you want, nothing is laid out or labelled logically and worse of all some of it just doesn't work - try ordering you DDs by last paid date, it doesn't work.

I think you're right. I've just placed an order with Amazon which was surprisingly painful to do. The main issue I had was when adding a new (foreign) address, I copied and pasted the info from the website of the business where I wanted the delivery. Amazon deleted all the accented characters from the address. When you are at the order review stage there is no way to edit an existing address, just select from the list or add new.

It also mispriced an item throughout the order process (50p more than it should have been), but calculated it correctly at the final confirmation. I couldn't find a breakdown of my transaction that showed the costs for each part of the order (ie, my UK deliveries and my foreign one) but when the order is complete it splits them up perfectly so I could confirm the product had gone through at the correct price.

There were a couple of other little annoyances, but the website made the process far more frustrating than it needed to be! You'd think this stuff would be easy now!

Yeah, the Halifax have altered something that was perfectly decent (although the sms for security is a fking pita if you live somewhere with crap mobile signal) and made it functionally worse and ill thought out.

Similar thing with zoopla. What once took two clicks note takes four or five. I ditched looking on there and just use right move instead.

I'm curious if there's any sort of UAT with these things.

I blame Apple and the obsession with getting it all on one screen. By scrolling forever...

They've fked up the Aldi site. It was a one-click solution to find the deals about to be introduced in 3 weeks. Now it's 3 clicks. Genius backwards.

Its due to the need for webpages to be presentable and usable by tablets/phones as well as computers. It doesn't really work having one for all, but what can you do.

That's not it. Its quite achievable to make sites responsive and work on both.

A lot of the problem is lack of direction and lack of talent. So many sites are designed by committee and look and feel terrible.

Whilst annoying, it's quite possible that this is deliberate. Just like putting the booze at the other end of the shop.

What do you see on your way to your destination?
