Hello all, I understand these have been going on for a while, but has anyone else experienced a noticeable increase in the number of scam calls recently.
They start off by telling me that I either have too many errors on my computer to be able to continue using the Internet or my internet connection is going to be disconnected tomorrow etc etc, all ending with wanting my credit card details.
I have tried winding them up a few times and playing a total idiot, pretending I thought the microwave was a computer but the start key wasn't doing anything - it doesn't take long before they tend to hang up. However the frequency of calls has become pretty annoying. In the last week I have received 6 or 7 calls a day - it may be because I have wound them up, who knows.
On a couple of occasions I have just hung up, but when I have gone back to the phone a few minutes later, they were still there - so I need to wait for them to hang up before I can use the phone again! They haven't stayed on line (yet) for more than 5-10mins, I guess it costs them too much, but still very annoying having your phone line blocked by someone else.
Anyway, the question is, what can I do about it? I have the BT 8500 phones with call guardian which I have set to block unknown and withheld numbers, if a number appears when they ring I also add this to the blocked numbers, however now they are all coming through as international numbers but I don't really want to block all international numbers as I do receive regular international calls from friends and family.
Is there a way of reporting these calls such that the origin can be determined? Or is this just wasting my time? Assume they are in a jurisdiction that BT has no control over?

I was getting around 10 to 15 a day and bought a bit phone that blocks numbers. No good as they never use the same number. I then set it up as do not disturb which would only let people on my VIP list ring through.

No good though if some one calling me from a number I didn't already have saved.

I've since swapped providers from sky to talk talk and my new number is a proper new number ie not been used before. No more dodgy calls.
