Met the girl of my dreams, got engaged blar blar all that stuff.

Her parents have a bit of land so we thought a marquee would be the cheapest option.

So how much for a marquee for 70 people.

£700-£1000 perfect.

Oh but we want it in October, heaters, carpet, dance floor, don't forget the toilet £500-£900, oh and the generator to run it £500 +fuel, transport, seats, tables, LEDs, doors? £80. Oh and that's not including vat.

Marquee for 70 people that's £4600 plus transport please. Oh and 6% on top for insurance. So about £5000.

Hahahahahaha could you point me to the nearest tall bridge please.

So we have £6700 for the wedding.

£1700 for food, dresses, suits, rings, music, flowers church and all the other random crap.

Best bit is the actual wedding in the church, the bit where you actually get married is only £500. A building that is hundreds of years old that costs thousands to maintain is the cheapest bit of the day.

Sorry I just had to vent.

Try a different company and tell them it's a marquee for a 50th birthday party.

The price is usually markedly different to the ones where the quote is preceded by 'Wedding'.

Overall That sounds reasonable to me tbh.some of the individual items, seem pricey, granted, but taken in total <€7k for a wedding seems good value.

I think you have a reasonable quote. People are always amazed how much a marquee costs to hire, and forget the required extras. Try another company for a comparative quote to confirm the validity of the figures

You could have a proper wedding for that price, rather than one in a tent.

We just hired the local community centre for ours (any church hall type of place will be similar).

It was heated, had toilets, a dance floor, chairs, tables, everything you'd want for really. Think it only cost us a few £100 for the evening.

Added band, buffet from a local catering firm, copious amounts of wine, beer, cider, and champagne which my brother and I had got on a booze run to Calais + a couple of polypins of ale from a local brewery. Job done. Everyone commented on what a great time they had.

I think we actually came out of the whole wedding thing slightly in profit and both my parents and the in-laws stumped up £3k each. Also had enough booze left over that I don't think we bought a bottle of wine for about 4 months after laugh

Carpet!?!

Get on with it, if you're going to have a piss up in a big tent then you need a bar and a portaloo (for the ladies) carpet is just decadence and you deserve to be ripped off.

Your problem here was asking for a marquee for a wedding.

Addition of that word to the end of the request resulted in the addition of many zeros.

We paid £13,000 for our wedding "tent"

Wasnt just a white box marquee though and was worth every penny!

why get married in rubbish weather in October, outside in a tent ?

normally people who have weddings in the cold months are doing it to save money, ditto those who get married on a Tuesday ??

I used a country pub/hotel and the ancient attached barn (think yorkshire dales, out skipton way)

the venue was free, I paid for a sit down meal, 4 courses and drinks for about 150 people. it was less than your £4700, just for a tent.

you havent mentioned catering yet.

no woman wants to be splashing about on grass in their finery in oct, in a tent, using a portaloo, no matter how much you pretend otherwise !

When we got married in 1990 we hired Caerphilly Castle for 24 hours that cost us 500 quid at the time, which I thought was reasonable, the church, three course meal for 125 people, evening buffett for 300 people, clothes, flowers, rings, honey moon and the rest of the stuff that went with it was the problem, that cost another 20 plus thousand, I think you got a bargain..biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I was looking at London venues and one possibility was the Hempel hotel, initial plan was August and to have drinks in their lovely Japanese garden. I inquired what a marquee would cost in case of rain (in addition to other room hire) - £18,000

This was 10 years ago now - we left
