How much (cash) money should you give in a wedding?

I normally give about £1k cash money but if they're good friends and I've known them for more a year or more then usually chuck in a but more.
Realy! £1K as a wedding guest, that is a ridiculous sum. You are talking £250 shy of net weekly income on £100K gross a year, and that does not consider pension provision. You are either in an exceptional social circle/socio-economic group or being (socio)economical with the truth....

A colleague from work is getting married next month and I am going to the evening venue (buffet in a function room in Northampton) with my wife.
We were thinking of giving her a card with £100-£150 inside.
Do you think that is OK?
Is this from the council thread? We were thinking of giving her a card with £100-£150 inside.

I don't think anyone can answer for your personal situation, but I wish I'd invited Japveesix to my wedding!
Personally a £10-£20 budget for a work colleague, £50 for a close friend, possibly more for best friend/immediate family. I presume my PH account will now be revoked on account of my financial circumstances.

I hate giving money as presents on any occasion but when wedding invitations specifically ask for money I really don't like it.
The last one we went to we gave enough to cover the cost of the food they had laid on. Well we thought we had until we found out it was a carvery!
Cannot stand this either, had one where they wanted to pay for their honeymoon, why not cut back on the wedding budget and I'll buy a gift and buy my own drinks or somethingThe last one we went to we gave enough to cover the cost of the food they had laid on. £150? I'd be inviting a lot more work colleagues if that's the going rate for an evening buffet...!We were thinking of giving her a card with £100-£150 inside.
