Inundated with requests to attend birthday parties recently.

Now,I have no intention of wasting an evening watching some attention we have "their time".

"No, I'm not 40,50,60. It's my 36th!"

Do one.

Displaying your grumpy bugger credentials to this audience is not attention whoring at all then?

"Look at me, I'm too miserable to celebrate someone else's happiness"

Are you their boss so they feel obliged to invite you? You don't sound like the sort to have many friends.

You miserable fker, what's wrong with being invited to a social gathering whatever the reason? I'm amazed that with an attitude like yours you get any invitations anyway. It's my birthday in a couple of weeks - don't panic you're not invited!

spin Well this thread has gone well! Someone said to me once in relation to FB when updating your status, imagine standing up in a huge room, packed full of people who were all quiet, and then shouting out something completely random. Are people really going to give a toss. In other words, think what you are saying /posting before announcing it to a big room!

Yes you are a miserable bugger, but consider this about birthdays, or at least our own or my own birthday:

You are another year older which means another year closer to being unfit and unable to do things as well as you could before. Another year closer to dying. What is there to celebrate?
I'm quite happy to let mine slip by with no-one noticing, there are people I know who don't even know when it is.
As it's relatively close to the end of March i've pondered over changing it to the last Sunday in March. This is the day when the clocks change, it marks the end of Winter and the lighter evenings are back, for me (as a person who hates Winter and lack of daylight/sunshine) this is a real cause for celebration.

But then you're just another seasonal change closer to infinite darkness.

Do one what?

Could you not just go to the birthdays of people who aren't attention wes and just enjoy socialising with their friends? I'm guessing probably not...

Yes true, but then I'm edging closer to that every Year, month and day! On the last weekend of March however I will actually see a difference overnight, it's been artificially made that way (and I don't agree with it), but it has created an acute point in time of change, which for me at least is worth celebrating. More than any birthday or Christmas whereby one of those days is just the same as the one before it and the one after.

Why do they want such a miserable, misanthropic grinch at at their parties?

Can one be an anti-social extrovert? An extrovert who prefers to stay home and not interact with people too often.

Depends on whether you're using the correct extrovert definition or not. I'm an introvert and have run children's parties*.

* - my meditation parties are a real hit with the 6 year olds.

Last time I had a birthday "party" I was turning 21.

People I know don't have "parties". They have a few drinks down the pub or a meal at a local restaurant. And we take cakes to work for the merriment of others.

Yep. It's quite a straightforward process.

Yes, but it's not actually like that is it. It's more like standing in a big room of your friends who know you and are all shouting things out too. Your Facebook may be full of strangers but mine certainly isn't smile
