Father in law died in 86 and left us a picture he'd been given on his retirement in '77. He was a Director of a major UK company so as a guess it'd have been quite pricey at the time. Quite an attractive pic IMHO just doesn't fit in with us in the future since we're likely to be moving into a smaller property next year or so would like to know it's value and how to sell it

Have had a look on Google and can't find anything from the same artist, J.Eggert, born in Germany in 1921.

Anyone any ideas please?

I can post a pic of it if that helps.

Cannot find out so much on an Eggert born 1921, there is a Jurgen Eggert born 1915, painted in the style of Picasso.

I have collected some paintings in my life and have always got the best prices on sale by going back to the country where the artist worked, a german auction house such as

https://www.dorotheum.com/en.html

may be able to give you best advice, they will need a good pic plus size of course.

I have been fooled in the past by thinking I had an oil original whereas it turned out to be a textured print, I am sure yours wont be that. If there is any labelling on the back then take a pic of that too.

Auction houses can be tricky to deal with, they take a good slice of the price, around 20% on my last sale and if the work doesent sell in their auction they do private deals with art dealers which are not always in your best interests.
