All parents of children above two / three have no doubt heard this coming from the back seats, especially so on long journeys.

Whats the PH views on stopping on the hard shoulder, to let little Timmy / Amy go and water the weeds?

It hasn't happened to me on the m'way yet, but I saw a dad (I hope it was her dad) aiding his little girl on the M3 yesterday, made me wonder what I would do.

It's probably the most dangerous place you can knowingly put your car. Risk and consequence I suppose!

It's got to be preferable to them pissing on the back seats!

Stopping on the hard shoulder when I don't need to, no way!
I'm not a parent, however I am a monkeys uncle and I would never want to put him at that kind of risk, how far is the services, or junction where its quieter - 20 mins max?

Much safer, just take a look at that dashcam from the 'traffic officers' with the wayward Mercedes, its just not safe!
Id rather have piss all over the place.

At a push, a 250ml bottle is safe until age 5. 500ml thereafter.

How does that work for little girls?

As a father of two girls aged 3 and 6, I can't recall ever having to do it (and we do some long hours in the car en route to Cornwall/France).

Our policy is always to prevent being in this position - so we always go for a wee before we leave the house, and always plan to stop within 2 or 3 hours anyway.

Basically, if you're somewhere and there's a toilet, put the kids on it! 9 times out of 10 they manage to squeeze a wee out!

Not sure I would like to stop on the hard shoulder. Enough people have trouble driving and paying attention - I wouldn't trust one not to just drive into the stationary car.

I would hope for services or a parking point.....

Always do the wee before a journey routine.

Have bottle too.

No way would I stop on a hard shoulder

We have never had a major upset to date.

Saw a dumb fk getting out of his van on the side of the M4 this morning to take a piss in the bushes. The mind boggles.

It's illegal to stop on the hard shoulder unless in an emergency. Having wet pants is not an emergency.

Being 55 I find it's more likely to be my screaming I need a wee!

Never on the hard shoulder though.

As mentioned the hard shoulder is a very dangerous place to be, I would at least wait until the next junction/ services and pull off there.
