Sorry if this has been posted before - there must be some PHers who've come across him - usually at ground level of, but away from T2, by the moving pavements as you come up in the lifts to level 0 from the hire car drop off at levels -1 and -2. Scots accent, trolley with luggage (relatively rare in these days of wheeled bags), tells you he's just missed his flight to London; can you spare him a few quid to call home etc.

He's had a lot of bad luck with timing as he must have missed this flight more than a thousand times, although we've not seen him for probably three years until today as we usually take a very late flight home rather than the morning one. Looking a lot worse for wear now than the last time we saw him about three years ago.. must be the stress of living Groundhog Day but without the redemption.

I've been approached with a similar story at a number of European airports. They usually speak with a British accent and often wear a suit to complete the clumsy business traveler look.

Wow, never seen him even though I have passed through Malaga airport departures 10 times a year for the last 17 years. Mind you, one could confuse him with a genuine traveller these days wink.

I've seen him a few times at AGP almost always in the area you describe. I wonder how much success he has with hapless tourists?

Not the person that you mention but there used to be a woman local to where i stay that done the same.

She used to get dropped off by her husband just next to the train station in a newish C class merc, middle aged, well dressed, proper and polite. She would come up and give you a sob story about how she’d had her bag stolen or lost it and was desperately trying to get home for one reason or another. Admittedly it worked once on me but she obviously isn’t very good with faces as she asked me many times after that!

Very odd.

I think he's probably not allowed in the main terminal and "works" in the area Mosman and I have seen him. He clearly makes enough to continue with his trade and obtain food and, from his increasingly dishevelled appearance, more than sufficient drink.

Once you get to the departure gates the timeshare scamsters are waiting asking you to answer questions for a "survey". Essentially they want to know that you have a house on which you can raise a mortgage, if so, you are entered into a "competition" in which you win the prize of a free holiday on which you will be hard-sold timeshare. For some reason I decided to play along and when asked if I was married said that I was gay - forgetting that there is gay marriage... so that didn't put them off. Why they want married homeowners I don't know, unless the sales pitch works best on us. Anyway, I said I was single which stopped the "survey" there and then.

Cue multiple rolleyesrolleyesrolleyes from the wife who was with me and told me not to be such a *****; just say I wasn't interested.

Direct sales technique - if you're married the home will probably be in joint names, and they'll need the agreement of the spouse. No point in wasting time on a sole traveller who might use "I'll have to ask the wife" as his excuse. Move on quickly to the next punter....
