My dad died a year ago today. My relationship with him wasn't the easiest: I spent a lot of my adolescence and adult years being angry at him. In his last few years I developed a compassion for his suffering. At the time of his death I 'went through the motions' and without wanting to sound daft, didn't really connect with my feeling at the time.

Anyway I spent time thinking about him and I just feel sad. That's all I really wanted to say and I just couldn't bring myself to say it anywhere else.

I'm no expert but it's good to say what you feel. PH is a good place deep down.
Well done for speaking out, I'm sure more people will be around with wiser words soon x

Know how you feel- lost my father 18 months ago. It does get easier, that's all i can say. Don't bottle things up either - PH might not be the best place at times, but make sure you have a path to talk about 'stuff' if you need it - in the real world not the internet.

I lost my father over 30 years ago in very tragic circumstances, and still get the odd bad day. Weird I can go weeks without thinking about it then all of a sudden just feel a bit down without any rhyme or reason. Suppose everyone operates on very different levels, but sorry to hear of your loss.

I'm very sorry for your loss Coanda. There's no rhyme or reason to these situations mate but take heart in the fact that deep down, despite your differences, he knows you loved him & he loved you.
As Sly Fox said, the internet's not always the best place for support - there always seems to be some troll lurking around wanting to shoot people down in flames...
Anyhow, get out with a friend / workmate / whoever, have a beer or coffee with them & chat to them about your issue. You'll be surprised how much support & advice you can get.
Think positive mate, onwards & upwards - I wish you all the best. You can PM me anytime.

I think the first anniversary is often worse than the actual original loss as you aren't quite so numb and there isn't as much to do to keep busy, it's definitely a turning point.

I lost mine three weeks ago, not sure if it will help you but I found this article useful when trying to make sense of him not being there anymore:
