If you'd recently found £20,000 in the back of your sock drawer, and assuming that some form of sensible investment was the only way forward (as opposed to coke and hookers and four nights in Butlins, etc) where would you likely invest?

I've got a bit of a thing for woodland... but I suspect that ship has sailed.

That's 5128 pints of McMullen's County Bitter.

So, I think I'd have a good year beer

Strippers knickers and a big bag of cocaine. 20k should just about achieve this.

Edit - just read no cocaine. Shame. Buy one of those crap wind up watches. Youd get 1 crap one for 20k.

A standard, immaculate, R32/33 skyline. Americans are going mad for them at the moment and all the good one are heading over there. Prices are going one way.

Get yourself down to various property auctions. (This theory DOES work the same for classic car auctions but does require a lot longer for the investment to mature). Watch and learn as to how it works. Buy a rundown property for around £20,000, (or use the £20,000 as a deposit for a dearer property), spend circa £10,000 - £30,000 on it, and sell it for a profit of around £10,000 - £30,000. It CAN be done 'cos I've done it. You ought to be able to roll it all over to doing around 2 - 3 properties a year.

Set out a time period of, say, 5 years, and at the end have enough money to go out and buy a proper classic car.

Or you could always waste your money on some overpriced/underengineered/overadvertised/overated German rubbish that will plummet in value and cost the above profits running it.

Nah you can still get some plots for under £20,000
This one has fishing rights for half a mile, nice sunny afternoon fishing in Pembrokeshire on my own piece of land sounds lovely.

Someone's been watching too much Homes Under the Hammer... you do realise the costs and profit figures in this programme are all entirely made up, don't you?

Give it to the Tories in return for a peerage.
Thus armed you will find yourself invited to sit on the board of lots of companies who will pay you handsomely especially if they can pay at least part of the money to an offshore account. Tip, offshore banking is easier if you are on the board of an offshore bank.

Didn't say I'd want an income, would quite happily buy it as an investment for relaxation rather than return.
Not every purchase has to produce monetary profit!
