I would like to go shooting with four of five friends for a stag in May. We are all sensible but haven't shot before. Can anyone recommend anywhere friendly within a couple hours of London? Thanks smile

Or, Holland and Holland, Rickmansworth. http://hollandandholland.com/shooting-grounds/

... assuming "for a stag" didn't mean the other kind in which case a: Two hours won't get you near one, and b: May is in the close season.

Depends where you are J.J's and Hawley clay shooting and Dartford shooting ground are all fairly close to the Dartford crossing.
I know Hawley cater for what you want to do not sure about the other two as I don't shoot at those two very often. Dartford does a very good breakfast.

You'll find good schools all the way round London, all within an hour.

EJ Churchill, West London, Hollands are all West to North West. But plenty in Surrey, Kent, Essex and Herts.

Those first three might baulk at stag do's. It does depend on your group as to whether you'd enjoy the more serious environments anyway. You could try Atkin Grant up the M1.

Bisley used to be a top clay environment as mentioned.

West London Shooting School and Bisley are options to the South West of London. Both very good tuition options, Bisley a bit more rural and expansive. Be aware that there are lots of different shooting options at Bisley so you need to contact the right place depending on the kind of shooting you want.

Couple of options in Dartford, both a bit more "earthy" shall we say. Not much in it cost wise tbh.

The above are open 4+ days each week, there are lots of others which only open every other Sunday. One such option that do a good complete beginner/introduction setup is Headley Clay Pigeon, it's got quite a different feel to other shoots though it's not to everyone's tastes.

Bisley Shooting Grounds is one of my favourites, especially when there's a club shoot on Cottesloe Heath. More likely you'll go to the Long Siberia ground which is not quite as interesting, but available most days. Mid-range prices.

West London Shooting school is also recommended, but expensive.

You could also try the Oxford Gun Company. I've been a couple of times but only to buy equipment - they do have a shooting ground and do tuition and pay & play. It's easily within a couple of hours of London and would probably happily do a stag party. http://www.oxfordguncompany.co.uk/shootingschool/i...

Yup to both, although JJ's can get horribly busy at times and they do set some bd hard ones up as well.

I've seen your VXR at Hawley a few times!

This actually sounds quite fun!

Can anyone basically just book a lesson and turn up for an hour of shooting?

Marsh Farm or Hockwell ring in Luton. Cheaper than London but you still get more 'gheto sthole' effect for your money

If you want an afternoon with a night out and want to venture just over an hour away on the west side I'd recommend barbury http://www.barburyshootingschool.com/ or Ian Coley https://www.iancoley.co.uk/

If your going that far then Rob Ireland in Moreton would do a bespoke afternoon and for a lot less than Ian Coley and then stay in Stow as the last pub in the square closes at 3am. Happy days. biggrin

But it's a long way out of London when there are so many options all around the edge of the M25.

Ultimately as driving out of London is a pain in the arse at the moment because of cross rail etc then the OP is probably best off choosing whatever is on a straight line out of London from where they will be based. Spending a stag weekend navigating the A406 would even bore train spotters. biggrin
