I haven't sold anything on eBay for a very long time. But this evening I decided to put my Apple Watch on there as these game shop type places that take them in won't give me enough for it (I'm sure it doesn't lose 50% of it's value in 3 weeks!). Anyway, it's been on there for 15 minutes now, and I've had 3 'whats your lowest/best price? questions, and a request to give it to someone for free as I will 'be rewarded by the Lord God in the next life' if I do.

Now, as a car salesman, I'm used to this kind of st. I don't know why it's bothering me so much tonight. Perhaps the celebratory whiskies aren't helping, or I'm just becoming a Grumpy Old Man. I thought it would be fairly obvious:

1) my 'lowest price' is the starting price on the fking auction.
2) I don't know what God will reward me for giving it away, as I'm not religious.

Does anyone else have any funny/annoying stories of selling on eBay?

I missed the end of the auction, I'd gladly pay you half what you were asking...

Not really, but I do have quite a few about selling to car dealers.

eBay tends to work well enough if you're selling niche or specialist stuff that only has limited appeal.
Stuff that has the broadest appeal and is easy to sell such as phones, tablets and laptops tends to cause most aggravation

I hope you're not posting that watch when it does sell?

Anything Apple-branded on ebay is pretty much a guaranteed muppet-magnet. Stick on a realistic Buy-it-now price, paypal only, and send it via courier to avoid the worst of them.

For me anything small and high value such as mobile phones etc - cash on collection.
Burnt once, never again.

You're using ebay wrong wink

If you was using it correctly you'd have it set up as a buy it now or best offer listing, with correctly setup auto accept & reject prices.
That way you get ebay to sift through & filter out all the timewasters for you

What's the angle/scam in that one? I've had quite a high value item on there the last few weeks and keep getting these 'offers' just after the auction ends...

It's just a slight variation on those who win an auction and claim it never arrived / slightly damaged, before complaining to eBay and getting the payment reversed and keeping the item.

They'll ask to complete the purchase outside of eBay but still via Paypal. As expected the item will mysteriously disappear during postage / never arrive and they'll reverse the Paypal payment whilst keeping the item.

Ah ok, thought it was something like that.

Ebay is frustrating. It should be so awesome but is generally a horrible experience. The site itself is an exercise in annoyance, with settings buried in silly places and a lack of explanation to their effect.

On brighter note I accidentally sent an item to the wrong person and instead of just nicking it they sent it back to me and declined my offer to cover postage! Nice chap. smile

So what is your lowest price?

It's apple stuff not eBay. I sell quite a lot of stuff and it totally depends on the item. Apple kit attracts batst, stupid aholes and chancers. Don't take it personally, just reply briefly and to the point.

It does depend on the item, aspirational stuff does attract loonies and fantasists.

I sold a Mitsubishi L200 the other, day, went for the buy it now price in a day, guy turned up with a trailer to pick it up, loaded it on and handed over the cash and off he went, barely looked at it, astounded how easy and smooth things can be but I know what you mean, knobbers wanting something for nothing.

Errrrr, you do know they actually need to make some money when they sell it on again - I think 50% is probably quite generous.

Its a bit odd moaning about this sort of thing if you're a car salesman. What do you normally do when someone comes in with a part exchange? Do you instantly offer them the best price for them or do you negotiate the best price for yourself? Its just a massive marketplace at the end of the day.

I've been running an eBay business for the best part of 2/3 years now, I constantly get 0 feedback members message me asking to ship it outside of eBay as their daughter/cousin/cat's aunt needs it for their birthday 'immediately'. Just email me your best price at __ etc.

I once sold a 968 on EBay. Despite having told the Buyer that I was selling up - my house had a 'Sold' sign outside, and the only furniture was a sofa and a coffe table surrounded by cardboard boxes - he still wanted to know EXACTLY why I was selling the car ..

Needless to say I don't work in Sales smile
