Well I had a text conversation with the 18 year old daughter of a friend last night, who is having her last day of school today.

I asked her what she had planned and if she was going to get totally smashed.

Nope she replied, she is going to McDonald's with her friends, then going for some ice desert and the doesn't want to drink anything because she has to study.

I was schocked. I remember my last day of school in the 1980s. The drinking started at 7am in the local park with a champagne breakfast, which I remember was long on the champagne and very short on the breakfast component. It then continued with smuggled booze at the back of the school, school assembly, moved into the pub. moved into another pub, moved into yet another pub, moved into the house of one of the teachers, who drove several of us kids there despite us being totally wasted and I suspect him being wasted also, although we kids were too wasted to notice, then it finally finished 24 hours later at 7am the next day when I staggered home after drinking by my estimation, 50 drinks over the previous 24 hour period.

That's what I call a last day of school - what the hell is wrong with the youth of today?

They turned into wussies.

People just don't go out and get smashed as they used to as it's seen as uncool..

Different strokes for diffferent folks.

My group were never really into heavy drinking. Social drinking yes, but we'd much rather sit and play a video game or kick a ball about without touching any alcohol.

This weekend past I took a group of old school friends on a camping trip, some of whom hadn't seen one another for 7 years. We were approached late at night by some other very drunk lads who were looking to score some weed. They were a bit shocked when we said that none of us had touched it for years and that we were actually just making a cup of tea and eating HobNobs. We're a group of 27/28 year olds. The look on their faces was priceless.

One group of eighteen year old girls is indeed representative of the yoof public at large. yes

If it makes you feel any better we have a nineteen year old apprentice who didn't turn up to work on Monday as the coppers lifted him for fighting over the weekend, he was blind drunk at the time I believe. jester

Different strokes for different folks n' all that!

If my dads friend had asked me that question i'd probably have given the same answer, the reality would have been very different though...

This thread had potential. Then the target of the OP's desires sobered up.

I think the OP was after a stroke.

When I was 18, the pubs in my hometown were full of young people every weekend, including underagers. 15 years later the pubs are virtually empty, even on a saturday, apart from thirty and forty somethings, despite the fact that the town has grown hugely. Where do they all go?!

Dunno, but I remember once I turned up at an off-licence in my school uniform to buy some booze. Guy looks at me, looks at my school uniform, says "Are you over 18?" to which I replied, yes and he sold me the booze smile

At home on X-box / PlayStation / Facebook / porn sites with a cheap tin of beer and a bag of crisps probably.

In this thread:

Old people notice there is a bit of a healthy living craze amongst youngsters and are not happy about it. Bring back binge drinking!

Apart from the McDonalds and ice creamredface

If they are off to join Isis, there's a strong chance they have never been in a pub wink
