... i once had a 6 month work placement abroad, small island with an even smaller expat community. There was a guy there who i though might be good for a few evening beers, turned out he fancied my girlfriend of the time and he seemed to have some sort of personal vendetta against me because of it...i can still remember (this was 20 years ago) a game of touch rugby when he just squarely took me out in some sort of spear tackle and then towered over me as i lay prone on the floor with a sort of demented look on his face...the guy just couldn't stand the sight of me, it was really quite odd

Not that I know of.

I wasn't massively liked at school being the nerdy sort who was crap at sport I didn't really fit in so I got bullied a bit but even then I wouldn't say that anyone really hated me / had it in for me.

yep - a couple of times.

I was 11 and in a scout camp in Ireland - a bully took a serious dislike to me because I knew a lot (because I read a lot). I was given the nickname "professor". Then I went and won a tent building competition and then finally an obstacle course race. I was hated after that (and not just by the bully!). It all came to a head one evening. With many others egging him on the bully decided he would beat me up, though he failed, he then ran off, crying, not a good look at 12. Ahhh, the good old days.

Another time, at 18 years old, for similar reasons. This time he was just a nutter and I caught his attention.

My ex wife is renowned for her inability to find anything positive to say about me.

Looking back I probably blew it that time I offerd to help her dad burn her mum at the stake.

Many years ago I managed a bar/cafe in between my extended degree - I employed a girl who turned out to be distinctly odd/unhinged; I fired her after she was caught shovelling the contents of the staff tip jar into her handbag. She then waged a jihad against me for a good few years (writing lots of fictitious letters of complaint which she continued to do into my next job). It reached peak weirdness when I received an envelope containing polariod pictures of strange religious symbols/artefacts and a goats head(!!) - the post mark was Aberdeen (were she lived when she was not studying) so I can only assume it was her.

My ex girlfriends Father, who had to write me a large cheque when we separated, for the money I had put in to the house so that his daughter could stay there. I really think he would have resorted to violence if we had met again.

I'm sure lots of people do. It's usually fuelled by jealousy. They want what you have, either by luck or hard work. The easiest thing is to hate because it gives them a focus.

I've only truly hated one person, I'm English, was working for a well known orange parcel company in Northern Ireland and the Depot Manager was a dyed in the wool Paisleyite Protestant. He absolutely hated me, went out of his way to make my life hell. In the end, I ended up hating him back for his totally irrational behaviour. I'm not proud to say it, but when (after I had left) I heard he had seriously injured his back slipping in the shower, I actually smiled.

How did that work then? Did you and he have some kind of contract?

Hate is difficult to pin down, I know a few people who have been malicious towards me, one had me made redundant for no good reason, another went to my ex for information which was then used against me. Another asked to borrow £10,000 for a car, with a promise to pay it back, didn't, said to sue her if I wanted it back.

All women by the way.

Never had a problem with a man, unless you count the bloke that I hit until he ran off. He was assaulting a woman.

Once, years ago

I worked with a colleague who was a complete tw** but thought he was everybody's best mate

At the work Christmas party I had far too much to drink and told him exactly what I - and everybody else - really thought of him
The room went quiet which is usually a bad sign but I just took this as an excuse to carry on and completely dig the knife in

Weirdly I changed jobs shortly afterwards and worked with his fiancee who orchestrated a hate campaign against me which wasnt great TBH
After 2-3 months in this role she also decided he was a complete tw** and walked out on him and then lead an apologetic charm offensive at work, which was nice. And no I didnt smile

When me and his ex became pals she also told me that he'd come home steaming that night and had almost brought himself to punch me

I now make an effort to be the designated driver at works functions

Not difficult surely? Chap and bird buy house, split up some time later, she wants to stay, can't afford to buy him out, so daddy ponies up so darling daughter can stay there.

Really, really, hated me? Apart from my mother, not sure, most people dislike me but that's normal, isn't it?
