Do you gamble ?
Discussion
I dont mean chancing a post Vindaloo fart but actual money ?
In the News and Politics section Betting shops were mentioned, I am perhaps a bit snobby but they just have an air of scuminess and I dont really understand gambling on horses and all that and I prefer to keep it that way, I am no more likely to go into a Wedding Dress shop than a betting one.
Every other advert on tv is for some online Casino or other, trying to convince us that the Players are "Playas" and not security guards sat in a bedsit in their underpants wasting their wages, then you get the Bingo ones, which seem to rely on players being of abnormally low IQ and "Bubbly".
Personally I just do the lottery on a direct debit, daft as that is, I did win a couple of grand some years ago, I have tried the online scratch cards as I had some cash on my account to use for some reason so I spent like 8 quid on them, then felt stupid when I lost it and havent bothered since, but I can see how people get addicted, it is so bloody easy, in the past you had to leave the house, now you can bankrupt yourself from your pc, tablet or phone, its bloody terrifying.
I dont really do fruit machines, maybe a quid when drunk, but only a quid and havent bothered in years.
Been in a Casino once with some guys from work, not a fancy one and I bet what I could, at the time afford to lose which was a fiver, on Roullete, won 24 quid and left it at that.
So, do you bet, do you know anyone who has let it get out of hand ?

Never gambled in my life, I grew up in a pub in the 70s, my dad always told me to keep away from the old alchies, they all seemed to prop up the local ladbrokes before the pub
Something just stuck, the connection with losers and gambling, I'm sure they are not all losers and gambling can have it's moments but something connected in my mind and I've never been able to place a bet.

Yes a bit of binger really, brief spurts then nothing, probably lost thousands over the years if you add it all up. Most I have won is about 1k. Still play the fruities usually when drunk. Go to the races, but most of my gambling is just random picks, no skill.
Funny thing is my Dad was a extreme addicted gambler, stole money to fund his habit and went to prison, but I still gamble. He died a long time ago and looking at the it today he would be a tramp considering how easy it is to lose money.
Just spend some time o the forums there are people who have lost 10s of thousands to gambling.

Nope, not really to be honest. I am in the lottery sydicate at work, only because I don't want to be the only f
ker left if the numbers were to come up!
I also have a £1 bet, every race with my neighbour on Lorenzo vs Marquez in MotoGP. I am £1 up!
Never been in a bookies, never bet on horses or dags. I can't afford to lose money so don't take a chance on it.
My cousins ex fiancée lost £2k in one night on one of those online casino things. He was gone the next day. Bellend.

I might buy a lottery ticket now and then or stick a quid in the fruit machine at the pub if I've got loads of loose change, but generally no, I don't gamble. A few of my friends do and I don't really see the point. They gamble on sports and tend to spend most of their time shouting at the TV about whoever they've placed a bet on. I'd rather just sit back and enjoy the sport for what it is. They occasionally win some money here and there, last month two of them won four-figure amounts, but I don't see a need to throw money away at a chance of winning more. I'd rather earn it and enjoy the fruits of my labour

The problem with gambling is people always know that one person who takes it to far and it costs them financially or socially. Yes gambling can become dangerously addictive the same as alcohol or food or dare I say cars
But the majority of gamblers treat it like any other leisure activity and have a flutter at levels they enjoy.

Yep, I gamble on football during the season, it might come to twenty quid a week on occasion, I'll also go to the casino on the odd night out but I usually know I'm going in advance so the bank cards stay at home, that way I can't get smashed and waste anything more than I intend to.
I won two grand playing blackjack last July and used it to help pay for a holiday, I have been a few times since and haven't won a sausage, lost about three hundred quid in total I'd say.
Prior to that win I'm not really sure what my success rates were, probably rubbish, so I couldn't say whether I'm up or down over the last few years TBH.
I've been staying away of late though, I don't fancy giving it back to them in a hurry

I work in gaming (mobile IT for probably the biggest company) and it's a brilliant industry to work in.
However I don't gamble, never have and I've never even put so much as 10p in a fruit machine.
That said a lot of my co-workers seem to be quite good at it and also do well at casinos when we are ever away.
