fk me its hot today

We're in our new office of only about 2 months and I'm beginning to wonder what fkwit designed it.

Huge south facing windows with plain old double glazing. No AC and not even any of those external sun shades you see on a lot of new office-type buildings. In lieu of AC there is a vent in the ceiling that you're meant to open along with the windows to get some circulation. Problem is that doesn't really work when A) there is no breeze outside because of the building location and B) there is no temperature differential between inside and out.

Literally stewing in our own sweat and clothes its disgusting. Proper building fail.

Sounds like it hasn't been commissioned properly - is the air circulating at all?

Anyway, we're in a 90s era two-story office block with 'air-con' by way of windows that open - we're all in shorts and t-shirt, but if we here a client is incoming we've all got office wear to change into. Been really working on my fitness for the last 12 months, I'm finding it a lot easier to handle pretty much any temp now.

Those utter swine in their air-conditioned offices in Brussels have made rules about the temperature in your workplace at which you can down tools and go home.

No problem in our office; AC set to 16 and all the doors and windows closed.

Step out the office though and it's muggy as hell. Bring on the rain!!!!

Strangely it's cooler in my office today that is has been when the weathers cooler, I think because other people have finally decided it's warm enough to open their windows and we're getting some breeze through the building.

We move buildings next week...in to a portakabin frown

In my previous employer the union wouldn't allow installation of A/C when it was built (early 90's) as they thought it caused illness and baby rabbits to die or some such unsubstantiated nonsense!

Now they want it retrospectively put in at way more cost - company simply points to the insistence it was not in the 2 massive buildings housing up to 2k people (not located in the UK) and they go away and have to explain why it's not in place and their members dwindle a bit each year when it gets hot.....

No circulation. Its dead. When coming back into the room its like hitting a wall of moisture.

I am very fit generally, I have been a swimmer since I was about 10 and still do heavy training. I genuinely think my body is used to being able to get rid of body heat very quickly because its always in water when getting "hot and sweaty". Except when I am not in water I can't cope at all!

Well on the plus side it's wedged in between two other buildings so won't get much sun, and we're the ground floor of a 2 story portakabin with most of the remaining sun that might make it in the windows blocked by a large supply of random industrial equipment parked the other side of the fence. Hopefully cooler here in Holland than in SA too, we hit 40 degrees out there a few years back, I lasted about 30 seconds before getting back in the car with the aircon on and staying there until the sun went down biggrin

Did some work a while back with a bloke who's regular office is an un-air-conditioned portakabin in Mogadishu, that sounded unpleasant.

Done!

This is 3 days of straight heat so I am expecting we'll be inundated with water in the not too distant future. Its very muggy outside so hopefully all the moisture is going to come back down to earth again soon.

I find women are never satisfied.
At my old office there was a constant battle between 3 people in finance (a majority of whom were females) and the rest of us about having the A/C on.
Proper hot down in our engineering corner but with the AC on it was a pretty nice 22 ish all around.
Of course this is not warm enough for the finance people who want it fking nuclear.

Depends a lot where the vents are, in office back in the UK I sit right under the AC vent, I'll be sat there in a jumper while others are in t-shirts grumbling about the heat biggrin
