Just wondering. Seen a fair few ice cream vans out in the good weather and wondered where they live and if they park up their vans overnight near you.

Added points for pictures of said ice-cream vans. smile

The one who lives on the main road near our house parks his in a garage behind his house. Deans Ice Creams. Can't get a picture because I'd have to go onto his property to take a snap.

There's one up my road outside number 99. It's Fab. It's coned off and no-one has used it since the bloke strawberry split from his wife. He ended it sadly with a Magnum. Hundreds and thousands of people have offered to buy it. getmecoat

We have one who comes round every night from may to september, nice ice cream from him.

I then heard the other night that he is/was a massive drug dealer, but I've heard that about other ice cream people too in various places so not sure how big a pinch of salt the story needs. Maybe I just don't know how to ask for the 'right sort' of ice cream

Another question, how do they make a living?

One stopped outside my place the other day and I got two oysters for £2.50.

Nobody else went near the van, and all that fuel used driving about, got to be a hard business to get by in, surely? confused

Although I did used to see a van around Saffron Walden a lot with the plate SICES, so maybe there's a good living to be had that you can indulge in expensive private plates. confused

I don't know if this is tongue in cheek but realistically if you were a massive drug dealer I doubt you would be driving round in an ice cream vanbiglaugh

The size of the pinch of salt required depends on whether you live in Glasgow!!

My uncle who grew up in Bradford in the 80's told me once that a certain multi-millionaire car designer now worth £40 million+ started off by selling coke from ice cream vans... rofl

Wouldn't be surprised. It's only the same as the famous restaurant in Bradford beginning with an "a" was built from drug money.

Ice cream man in our old village was a miserable sod, whose van promised Mr Whippy style ice cream, but delivered generic vanilla ice cream scooped out of a tub.

He also had a middle aged oriental woman in the back who looked like she wasn't there voluntarily.
