Mortgage/Outgoings vs. Disposable?
Discussion
Currently doing some budgeting around mortgages and outgoings etc.
As a percentage (simply as I'm guessing most people won't want to disclose what they take home) what are you left with each month after paying essentials i.e. mortgage/bills/food and all the stuff that is simply unavoidable?

Don't forget to include pension contributions in the 'essentials'. That'll be the real divider in the next two decades as the army of people who haven't invested for an income after they are prevented from earning one through work start having to move into State supported housing and benefits. It's going to be hard to adjust to a lifestyle of nice house and toys to one of bedsit and surrounded by dregs.

Yes of course, thank you, I basically meant all the stuff you have to pay each month.65% left over for me but a lot of that is directed into mortgage over-payments/savings/share save etc
Mortgage is very cheap at the moment and i have no regular payments for cars as i bought it cash (1k). I get to work from home most of the time so I don't have commuting costs at the moment.

Apparently I have 42% left over after bills. f
k knows where it goes though, never seems to be there!
Some of it is a bit transient though - food can be £20 a week, or £100 a week depending on meals in vs meals out. Fuel can be £40 a week or £100 a week. Car expenses like tyres and MOT are not exactly disposable either.

Based on net salary:
51% on monthly living costs - Mortgage / food, life insurance, income protection etc
29% on discretionary spend - going out, cars (fuel etc)
20% on savings & investments
Pension is deducted at source
Currently in the process of moving away from paying things like insurance on a monthly basis which will further reduce the outgoing and put more into savings on a monthly basis and save us a couple of quid each year in interest payments.

A lot of people with far higher than average disposable incomes on here so far... here's mine as a percentage of net monthly income (after pension contribution):
Mortgage: 25%
Food (inc nappies etc): 15%
Car loan: 6%
Car insurance, tax, fuel, servicing etc (2 cars): 7%
Council tax, utilities (inc mobiles): 12%
There are other things that are almost necessities like clothes, haircuts, lunches at work that I haven't included here. These soon add up.
