Hi all,

Bought an item on eBay, which was tracked through Royal Mail recorded delivery. I've used this seller before, and items have always arrived promtly. I received a text at about 10am on Friday whilst i was at work saying tge item had been delivered to either myself or a neighbour. As it turns out, it doesn't look like this is the case.

Got home to find that no delivery note had been left, and that my immediate neighbours hadn't received anything. I've tried all other houses in the street too, still nothing. Furthermore a family member was actually present at my home address at the supposed delivery time.

I've tracked the item, which confirms it was at my local delivery office, i considerd that perhaps they'd just made a mistake, and so i stopped in the branch today to se if i could sort something out. The first guy hadn't a clue, so grabbed the guy who had been on delivery that day, he didn't know either. After 10 minutes a rather blustery depot manager came over who assured me that thanks to their new GPS tracking, i must definitely have received it, and failing that I'd have to get my money back from the seller.

When i checked my address using their GPS tracking, it turns out my address is listed in another street. I've been over to that address and it's immediate neighbours, none of whom have the item.

Anyone got an idea what my next step shoukd be? I hardly think it's the sellers fault, and i see i can go through some sort if claims process with RM for lost mail.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Only the seller has a contract with RM so it needs to be them that chase for compensation. You need either a refund or replacement from the seller.

We have had several occurrences of this nature where letters and packets have been 'signed for'.

It's not going to turn up, RM will just point to a squiggle and therefore absolve themselves from any responsibility.

On another note, the company I work for bought £100 worth of 1st class stamps from the Royal Mail website with free delivery.

They arrived after 3 weeks as RM were out of stock. Honestly. They were delivered by a DPD courier. The nice Polish bloke asked me to put a squiggle with my finger on his tracking device. I can only assume they use DPD as the DPD staff have no idea whats inside, my guy thought they were Post it Notes.

Bonkers.

More likely they actually wanted them delivered...

While I'm sure they do have f**k-up's DPD are the only courier who have actually always delivered when they say they will and have consistently given good service. They're the only ones I'd use if I wanted to make sure something arrived.

I really empathise with this one.

My postman is rubbish, almost everyday I get regular mail that is correctly addressed to somewhere else push through my door, I take it to the correct house. I have no idea if any of my mail goes somewhere else.

I have sent mail to people and they say that even though it is sent as recorded mail and wrapped in packing tape it has been opened, in fact torn apart, and the contents removed. in one case I lost a £1500 fountain pen. The Royal mail answer was that some losses were to be expected in their processing machinery, I saw the parcel, it looked like someone had taken a shine to what might have been inside. Royal mail say they will investigate if I can tell them where the damage occurred, WTF! They refused to pay compensation because I didnt say that there was a silver item inside the parcel, just a fountain pen.

Another recorded parcel was delivered without a signature, the buyer said that they hadnt received it, the parcel was worth £100, Royal Mail paid me £46, the maximum. The item, which was unique, appeared on ebay one month later.

You can't really moan at RM if you are too cheap to pay the correct postage (e.g. special delivery £10,000, which would have covered the items).

I used to send special deliivery, a retired postman told me that these items are targetted by bent posties who fake delivery or open the parcels to see what it so special.

I think that the whole system is a corrupt monopoly, tbh.

We also have the most expensive small parcel delivery system of any nation in Europe or USA. The mail system needs competition.

Agree with this wholeheartedly.
