They've really not thought this through...
Discussion
Every so often you come across a 'they've really not thought this through' moment.
Perfect example today - having reset my cookies I find I can't get into a web site forum, and I can't remember my log in (normally have it set to be permanently logged in).
No problem, need to reset it. Trouble is, I've registered using a Hotmail address and there's a long (and perfectly reasonable) explanation why Hotmail no longer accepts emails from the site. It concludes:
If you are already a user of this forum and have a Outlook/MSN/Live/Hotmail email address, please contact the forum admin to get it changed; you will not be able to change it yourself as the confirmation email will not be deliverable.
Fair enough, off I toddle to the section entitled 'The Team' to contact them as requested.
The board requires you to be registered and logged in to view the team listing.
Brilliant!

That's a bit like my online banking site.
The little keyfob card pin thingy you need to log in stopped working, I phoned up, explained this to the woman who answered only for her to give me a sarcy reply - "next time just request a new one on our website". How? says I. "Just log in and click Help with my account". Okay yeah, I'll get right on that, cheers

That's reminded me of Easyjet. On their website there is a section about getting flights refunded. You can reschedule them online, but is says you have to call them for a refund.
When you do call, it plays a message telling you that if you want a refund, you have to do it online...
Sounds like they thought that through perfectly! When you do call, it plays a message telling you that if you want a refund, you have to do it online...
At a multinational IT company I used to work for, our team were on a sub network of the main company one, so used to log in to the local network, and then remotely log in to the main company net. However the main company network required a password change every 3 months...which you couldn't do on a remote login...so had to call someone in Budapest to change the password for you...who would then e-mail you on the company network to tell you it had been done
