I'm halfway through a level 4 diploma course, funded by a 24+ learner loan. A couple of weeks before the end of the first year, it became apparent that the local Adult Education dept. wanted to take direct control of the course, which is currently being subcontracted to private tutors. The problem is, they can't guarantee that the venue or time will remain the same, and there is no chance of us keeping the same tutors.

Our current tutors have offered to teach us pro bono for the second year, we just have to cover the examination fees and venue costs. All of us have decided to stick with our current tutors, so we are trying to cancel our student loans, and remove ourselves from the clutches of the local authority.

Problem is, Student Finance England say we have to cancel online, but when we try this, it just says that we have to deal directly with the council.
The council don't seem to know how to deal with it either. "Someone will call back within a week or so".

Has anyone ever managed to cancel a student loan and withdraw from a course after starting it? If so. how did you go about it?
