Are there any people / celebrities that you used to dislike for whatever reason, but have now changed your opinion of?

In the mid/late 90's I was living in the Southgate area of London, where the MP was one Michael Portillo. As a student, he was considered public enemy No.1 amongst my friends and aquaintances, to the extent that one memorably couldn't even imagine themselves wasting thier urine on him, to put him out, if he walked down the street on fire! Students eh!

Anyway, everyone including myself, now seems to agree that Michael is in fact a top gent, who's hand any of us would hapily shake if we came across him. Even his colourful dress sense now attracts some admiration amongst my peers.

Has anyone else got a similar ex-dislike who you now consider to be a top bloke / gal?

I used to think Mick Hucknall was a talentless idiot who couldn't sing. After a while I changed my view and realised he was also a mad talentless egomaniac (who couldn't sing). smile

BTW, My views of Portillo have also softened greatly. As soon as he left politics he became a human being.

Like him or loathe him, Mick Hucknall is a fantastic singer.

Well I think you know what I think. wink Fact is, he can't sing in tune. If that doesn't bother you, that's fine.

I employ singers as part of my job, so know what 'in tune' means.

Out of interest, It was when he compared himself to Bach that I really went off him.

Bach couldn't sing either. Hucknall can; he is incredibly soulful but might not fit the bill for the type of job you recruit for.

I'm surprised that no-one has said Lewis Hamilton yet!

No....I've mulled it over and I'm still not sure what you are getting at. Are you saying Bach could sing? Any third party commentary on that one?

Pitbull strangely enough!

I watched him being interviewed and all he could talk about was how lucky he was to get where he was, how great his fans were, how great his backing musicians and dancers were etc

The interview was him being really humble whilst saying everyone else was great.

Every time I consider changing my mind about him he does/says something to stop me.

David Beckham I suppose, though he has worked hard at his public persona.

Lewis Hamilton a little bit, I've always been a fan but during those McLaren years I thought he was going to go off the rails a bit. He had that lost childhood thing a lot of stars go through though I think so I think he can be cut a little slack. At least he didn't start fiddling kids and hanging out with monkeys. Now I think he's matured into the sort of person that's a credit to himself.

Christian Horner actually as well as we're mentioning F1. God he was insufferable during their dominant period but again, he's a credit to the sport and gives great copy to the media. I wish motorsport magazine would do one of their podcasts with him.

Pete Townsend. God I can't bring myself to listen to The Who these days after his "book research", I know he's pleaded innocence and all that but I'm sorry I just don't buy it.
