What do you do?

I haven't seen this happen for ages but today a couple of kids, probably 12/13asked if I would buy them some cigarettes whilst I was popping in to grab some milk.

I declined. Smoking is bad and all that.

But a part of me wanted to just take their money to teach them a lesson about how they should spend their money more wisely!

Would I have been cruel to do so? I wasn't even at my local shop so they wouldn't have been able to follow me home to 'do my car over' or anything like that.

Tell them to bigger off.

Aside from the obvious, Northumbria place uses to do sting operations like this.

Is it a sting if I take their money but not but them the fags/booze? Or is that just theft... I think I know this one.

Buy them sweets instead.

Mind you, that brings its own set of problems.

I got asked by a group of kids a year or so back to buy them a pack of fags. I did, and even told them to keep the loose pennies they had clubbed together to get the cost of a pack of 20.

I can remember when I was trying to buy fags when I was 14. smile

Tell them to ps off. It's an offence to buy those items to kids, and it's also an offence to try to buy them if you're underage. However, you'd be in more trouble if you got caught. It's not worth it.

As you say, it doesn't seem to happen much these days but I suppose most of the kids who smoke just take their mother's supply. When I went to school, the local shop had a jar of loose tabs behind the counter that you could buy individually for 50p each.

I got asked to buy some kids fags once on the way home from the gym. It was actually the 2 girls who asked all sweet and kindly. I said no and went to get back in my car. Just as I was getting back into my car the lads started hurling abuse at me. I got back out of the car and did what any pumped up roid head would do and started shouting abuse back, waving my arms like a monkey and when they went to run away I chased them a bit... made me laugh and never saw them outside the shop again!

It was my local corner shop where I'm on first name terms with the owner, used to do a paper round there when I was a kid. The next day the lady (wife of owner) was in the shop and actually said thank you for making them go away as she was sick of them coming in and asking her for fags.

I would never buy anyone under age anything like that.

I was once asked to buy alcohol for some very obvious first-time 14 year olds. I bought then Becks Blue (alcohol-free beer). They were so happy to see the Becks logo that they sauntered off to the local park for a lovely sober night. I hope they had fun.

I was once offered a wristy in exchange for buying some I'm guessing 13 year old girls some vodka cruisers.

Yeah, turned that one down.

One of the lads I used to knock about with at school (one of those that could walk into an off licence at 15 and never get ID'd) would always buy cigs et al for the chavvy little scrotes that wanted them. His justification was that it helped them to die quicker thus removing chavs from the world. Ironically he got into drugs at 6th form (bit of weed here and there) and died last year at 32 from a heroin overdose trying to self medicate for a sinus infection, sad, but sadly not unexpected.

Remember seeing a thread somewhere, Facebook maybe.... Asked to buy 10 'Richmond' they duly obliged and came out with a pack of sausages and claimed they only came in packs of 8. Probably got stabbed for their efforts though.

It was legal to buy your own when I was 14.
Thankfully I had long since quit by that age smile

Heroin for a sinus infection? surely a nasal spray and perhaps some ABs from the doc should do the job?

I don't think most heroin users think that rationally or logically!

From the published report apparently over the counter and prescribed meds 'weren't working'. Unfortunately common sense departed him well before he hit 20. Towards the end of 6th Form I'd distanced myself from quite a sizable part of my circle of friends. Going to house parties with a bit of weed being passed around is one thing, but when it started getting on to people openly doing considerably harder drugs I didn't want any part of it. He went from being somewhat brilliant at Maths (A* GCSE and consistent high marked A grades in the first year of 6th form) to a drop out in the space of a term in the second year. Like I said, sad, but sadly not unexpected. I feel sorry for his dad who found him.
