I think the powers that be finished what had already been started by the pupils and demolished the comprehensive, then built an 'academy' on the land.

Was a Quaker school. Loved it, closed down not long after as not enough people could afford to send kids there. Happy memories.

I'm not surprised with pupils spelling like that!

I was so badly bullied at my first secondary school that I don't actually want to name it, but it's an aspirational comprehensive-in-name-only sthole full of poisonous mostly upper middle class brats who didn't know they were born and treated anybody different like subhumans, with the active encouragement of about a third of the staff. Another third, maybe a bit more, were decent people trying to do a hard job and the remainder had given up.

Moved after 3 years to a voluntary aided ACTUALLY comp school - the kind that actually does have kids of all abilities and welcomes them - basically wasted 2 years recovering from the first place and the next 2 trying to figure out who I was. Being in a school where the prevailing staff culture was wanting the kids to be OK probably contributed to the very good results the more academically able achieved.
