My father has an obession with cleaning cars ( once a week or two)
Cleaning your car once a week is obsessive?Count me in, I guess, I don't particularly enjoy the act of cleaning it, but I like it to be clean.

My dad, on eating a roast dinner, always saves the meat until last, "save the best for last".
Odd.
I do that with pretty much every meal that it t possible to separate the meat from everything else. Have to know when you're getting full though to move onto the meatOdd.

In the 1970s, the old bloke who lived opposite us used to clean his Citroen GS every single morning.
We had a similar pillock, Mr Garvey, over the road, he had a valeting fetish with an Austin Maxi, he polished the paint off the roof and bonnet resulting in a respray within 12 months. He used to drop his Wife at the front door then brush the floor mats and seats where she had been after every single journey. On a more comical note, aged about eleven I once left him concussed having hit him on the side of the head with a potato.

I clean one of my cars every week or two. Is it really an odd thing to keep something clean? I also clean my house every week and change my bedsheets every other week. Is that odd too?
I just think its a bit obsessive to clean something tbat often with a dirty old sponge ans some old polos. When I do clean my car, I wax it, so I dont have to clean it often. Its not really a P&J either, its been keyed. Which boils my piss.Tailgater said:

Agree about the keying. Doesn't matter if it's a shed or a brand new hypercar, it'd boil my piss too.In fairness I give my cars more priority than my house. I like to keep the property clean but, as a basic example, I can't remember the last time I moved the fridge out and cleaned the area behind it. Yet I remember taking the wheels off my TVR back in December to give the arches a good scrub. Furthermore, my father has absolutely no interest in cars but loves his garden. If you point at a plant in my parents' (pretty large) garden, he'll happily recite when it was planted, last trimmed, watered, and an expected fruition date. Yet if you ask him what the mileage of his car is, he'll have no idea.
I suppose PHers would find that odd. A man who's done well for himself and looks after his garden like a child, but to this day can't park his car without kerbing an alloy.

I kind of get the garden but does he really say the expected fruition date?! Wow, he could be working for the NHS

My mother, couldn't care less about her car either, apart from if it has nice seats and a decent mileage, and it is working properly

I see you own a TVR. I can understand cleaning that but really? An old banger?

I give my sheds some love too. I hate wilfully neglecting a car. My TVR gets treated like a princess at maintenance time, whereas sheds like my old Rover get the basic treatment - an oil top-up, a cursory glance around the mechanicals, and an automatic car wash. My MG is my current shed but also fulfils the role of an everyday fun car, so it gets a bit more tlc than it should do. The Merc is my reliable workhorse and I've developed a lot of respect for it. I've slammed it over speed bumps and driven hard on cold oil, but it's taken everything in its stride and 99% of the car still works as it did when it left the factory 13 years ago. I can't bring myself to abuse the car now that it's gone through a year of neglect and still looks and drives like a car with 40k miles on it.I kind of get the garden but does he really say the expected fruition date?! My dad sees fruition dates in the same way we see servicing intervals on our cars. I change the water filter in my fridge when it goes red. However I know the next service due is on the MG towards the beginning of October. Horses for courses.
What do you call a car enthusiast whos not really in to his cars? He likes them, tells me the ones hes spotted etc, browses Autotrader, cleans his car and knows about the mechanicals but cannot identify every car, cannot explain some things, doesnt keep his main dealer history up (eg does things at Kwik fit and halfords), and doesnt know when his tax and mot is running out?
