Can anybody recommend a fast, good cobbler?

I'm getting married on September the 10th and have managed to punch a perfect hole in the sole of the Barkers I was intending to wear.

Annoyingly the Barker return process takes far too long to be any use, so resigned to the fact that I will never be able to return them to Barker again.

That said, I do want a decent, stitched on repair done so am wary of taking them to the usual glue and staple merchants that I can think of locally.

So, can anyone suggest a decent cobbler with a fast turnaround that deals with postal repairs?

Failing that, can anyone in Glasgow recommend a local place that can handle a properly welted sole?

There is a Timpsons nearby but what are they like? Can they handle this sort of work?

Thanks in advance...

Your best man should have already prepared the "Help" and "Me" signs for the soles of your shoes.
Problem solved no?

A response (now missing confused) suggested a temporary rubber stick on sole, until after the wedding.
Honestly, that was my second thought too.

Unless Barkers are made from unicorn foreskin, I would've thought that any cobbler would be able to fix them.

Presumably there are cobblers in Glasgow?

That's also what I was going to suggest.

Never even occurred to me but yes, that would probably do it. Thanks for the suggestion - I'm sure pretty much anywhere could do that.

As for a good cobbler in Glasgow, I honestly don't know. Previous places I have tried have used glue and staples but that's not going to cut it on a properly welted shoe.

Buying a new pair is just silly.

Send them into Barkers for a repair so they come back like new and treat yourself to a nice pair of Loakes for the big day, then in a few weeks you have two nice pairs of brogues. You can't have too many nice shoes, they are like watches and 911's. You can never have too many to enjoy.

Sent mine to a local place but a two week turnaround. Then found this place that suggests they can deal with stuff quickly. I haven't used them so can't comment on the quality of work.

A stick on sole would be a bodge (as there is a hole in your shoe)
There is/was a London based PHer repairer, though you may be pushed to get them back in time.

If I were you,I would be seriously considering buying a new pair smile

While I fully appreciate hashtag's sentiment, and the basic principal that a gentleman can never own too many pairs of good shoes...
I have heard that the cost of a wedding can be quite eye-watering, and throwing another £400+ at the 'problem' may not be what is wanted just now smile

I am a big fan of Barkers myself. A couple of their styles/lasts fit me perfectly.
So well in fact, that I would have full confidence in purchasing a new pair, wearing them out of the shop, and undertaking a 10 mile walk immediately.
I've just not (so far) found an equally good fit with Church's or Cheaneys.

Same here. Supremely comfy, right from the shop. I have a pair of Church's and some from Lobb but the Barkers fit best and look nicest to my eyes.

Also, being a Scotsman and eschewing the traditional ghillie brogue in favour of these, I am being very specific about colour and style - it's these or I'm reduced to my old black ghillies.

And as you say, on top of a new kilt and bespoke jacket and waistcoat (and a bloody wedding!) I'd rather not drop another £500 on shoes when I have the perfect pair already...
