As per the title, woke in the middle of the night to hear something fluttering around the bedroom

At first I thought it was a bird in the loft and then it scared the bejebeez out of me by swooping right across my head eek

Took a few mins to shake sleep head and realise it was a bat that had flown in through the open window.

I turned over with the duvet firmly over my head - big wus that I am - visions of the thing clamped to my neck in my sleep laugh

Only told swimbo in the morning she would have wanted to turn all the lights on and have a look.

And yes ..it had gone this morning.

laugh I hadn't thought of that.

We live quite close to the village pond and also a long avenue of trees so bats around here are quite common, I'm told that they're "wonderful, lovely things" - I know that they're one of Gods creatures but...uuuh...shudder..laugh

Mind you I still get scared when the Dalek music comes on saying "we will exterminate you....we will exterminate you!" and I'm reasonably old to know better than be scared of a toilet plunger!

Bet it's still in there, probably tucked away in the fold of a curtain

There is an old barn a hundred metres or so from our house. The resident bars spend a few hours swooping ,through our garden feeding on the mozzies and other stuff that tries to bite us in the hot tub.

Bats are okay by us biggrin

We get a couple a year. The cats bring them in.

I have no idea how they catch them.

They are, and completely harmless. Go watch them of an evening, fascinating.
Oh, they're also protected, so don't cause them any grief of the "men" will come and sort you out.

I once caught one while fly fishing in late evening/twilight. He swooped in a grabbed the fly just before it touched down on the water.
Terrible experience for both of us really.
Had to have assistance so as to release it as best we could without harm.
I have to admit to taking some pride in my fly tying skills (once I knew the bat was okay).

I've been waiting for years for someone to start the "Most unusual creature caught while fishing" thread smile

Totally agree with you - we're both nature lovers and the more you look, the more you see. I just love living in the countryside- its quite magic.

BristolRich and MGTS - you're both sick! laugh

Reminds me of a time I came home from a heavy night on the town to find a bat in my room.I stood there with my duvet over my head for a few minutes as it darted about. It eventually flew into a hole in the top corner of the room where some plaster had been removed. I decided sofa was the best option however my mother thought different. You try explaining to your mum there is a bat in your room when your sh*tfaced and can barely speak. The drugs question was raised the morning after but I found some bat poo on the windowsill and the council found them in the loft when they came out a week or so later.

Must be the season-last night I found a frog in the bathroom,in the bottom storage bit of the baby bath!
Managed to capture it,and freak out the wife, but probably boobed by putting it into the stream in the garden as it was flowing quite fast,so poor froggy probably got swept away into the loch frown

Bats are great, we have them out at dusk every evening, SWMBO isn't so keen though hehe.

We've only had them in the house a couple of times and they always find their way back out which is more than could be said for the pigeon that we found roosting on the wardrobe one night, had to chase that daft tt out to get rid of him rolleyes.
