Local tip/recycling centre, a well spoken mid twenties guy in a high vis @ the entrance.

"I'm your meet and greet"
hi
"what do you have to dispose of"
various clothing, shoes and electronics.
"great do you know where they go?"
yes thanks.
"perfect, follow the road around"

Age concern have a couple of portacabin shops and yard on-site, for electronics and house hold stuff, clearly labeled bins for clothes, shoes & dry container for mattresses.

Finish the trip with a look around the shop. Nothing of interest this time, but on previous occasions I've picked up tool boxes, car ramps (with a fresh lick of hammerite), tools, garage storage, shelf units, filing cabinet. etc.

All in all well done Warwickshire.

We have similar (guy in a booth) but that is only because they want to charge you if you have more than 1 bag or rubble, or more than 1 tyre etc! So they are not really welcoming you, but inspecting you...

I like the sound of the Age Concern shop though.

I'm not sure they charge at this site, cars and small trailers only, no rubble or soil.

Commercials are redirected to the main site with a weighbridge, sadly this site doesn't have a shop.

Our local tip, sorry, recycling centre, is very good.

Couple of weeks ago I took an old cooker the staff unloaded it without me asking for help.

I've been a few times and the staff are very helpful - I took some old clothes but couldn't work out how the bins worked, a guy walked down and just said dump them on the floor and I sort it.

But we don't have a 'meet and greet' guy - think I mention it to the them!

Must be, and yeah, the young lad is great. You do wonder what he's doing there.

A 'nice experience' at any of the Warwickshire or Cov tips is a rare occurrence, most of the time I end up falling foul of multiple rules - you cant take this here, cant take that there, can take this but need to be booked in 48 hours of advance.... fking hell, its plasterboard not nuclear waste.

It takes 20 minutes to take a car full to the tip these days , I miss being able to hoike it all in one skip

I know a guy that runs the tip in a posh bit of manchester, some guy comes in driving a brand new RR Sport and asks if bikes go in the metal skip

er no, i'll take it for recycling

he opens the boot and takes out a £1000 mountain bike that looks like it's been ridden once

as he was driving away one of the lads comes over and says don't you know who that was

turned out it was a footballer chucking an old bike away because his sponsor had given him a new one

does this go in the skip biggrin

1 meet n greet, cheaper than having weekly garbage collections.

Get used to it, you'll be there a lot more often

Alternate weeks black bin/recyling very rarely fill them. Warwickshire does have 5 bins per household though.

I've moved, but still take stuff there! It's so quiet, neat & tidy!

My tin is happy for me to take multiple bags of rubble sacks in. I'm about a ton and a half in total. Hardly worth a skip but several trips in a in the car!

My local tip (Lichfield) has never charged for anything, but yesterday we had notification that they are going to charge £3 for a bag of soil or rubble from the start of November.

I've got a pile of rubble, about a ton, that I'm suddenly motivated to get rid of quickly!

Was charged $70 AUD to go to my local waste transfer station (fancy name for a tip) last weekend....

The Octavia was totally full of crap and junk which we had hoarded from over the years, but still - that's a fair bit of cash!

Yesterday – my local tip- Aylesbury.
Saw a guy taking loads of scrap 3 x 2 off his roof rack. I went over and I asked him if I could have it for my log burner. No problem - and he lays it down next to my car for me to load into my boot. Sorted… well it should have been….
I’ve mentioned this sort of thing before – if it touches the floor- it’s theirs – yes really.
Hi-Viz man turns up and informs me in no uncertain state – “All swapsies have to be done outside the yard”.
Me: “Ah ok, where’s the sign informing us of this?”
Hi Viz “There isn’t one”
Me: “Well how do we know that’s the case then?”
Hi Viz: “It’s the rules”
Me: “But if there’s no mention of that – how are we supposed to know? Maybe you should put a sign up informing the public of that for next time…”
Hi Viz: “There’s no need – it’s the rules of the site”
rolleyes I gave up, shut the tail gate and drove off
Other times, I have been there in the past and the wood container is so full, they are asking people to take the stuff home for their log burners etc...
Seems like we can’t win….
