After a conversation at work today i am trying to find the thread/blog where a man talks about how he joined a massive american company out of school and then a few years later after a big company re-org he finds himself with an office, and a pay packet and no actual work, or line management, he then finds that there is another person in the company exactly the same who has been like that for years.

This is vaguely work related so if anyone can manage to find it by the end of the day i will be very impressed and offer that really patronising virtual pint thing.

Thanks.

Im heading in that direction, they keep sending more and more of my work to India meaning I sometimes find myself with nothing to do. That story was good to read as if anyone looked at my screen it looks like I was just reading a text.

I want to go home as I have no work this afternoon.

My work has actually been like that for a couple of months.
contractually at a location with not much to do.

All changes next month so i have been enjoying the enforced internet usage.

Work has slowed down a bit, I'm in claims so I can't exactly make work, unless I pop over to the Tate and knock over a couple of sculptures.

Really enjoyed reading that, took a solid 20 - 25 minutes and like the others I'd love an update as to where he is now.

I had some time like that over the summer. I find it starts to make my head hurt after a while, clicking through the same sites and watching the hours tick by.

Thankfully I've got proper work to do now.

Cheers, haven't seen that in ages. Fittingly read in work, whilst not doing anything.

Sure it was a good read, but it's just a bit of fiction surely. Nicely written and all and no doubt there are similar examples in the real world, but I don't buy that as an accurate journal of true events for a second.

Indeed, one similar example!

I've read the thread the OP was looking for a few years ago, great read and even if it was fictional I'd love to have an update.
It would be great if he got to retirement without issue although if it was true I've got a feeling the economic downfall in 2008 may have caught him out.
