The Mrs and I still go out occasionally.
I usually take her to some film I desperately want to see at the cinema and then need to buy her an expensive dinner to make up.
Most of the time we'd rather stay home because
For people jaded with the regular going out experience I recommend (1) doing it far less and (2) spending a lot more money on it when you do. Avoid ten £100 night's out and do a £1000 night out instead. A completely different class of experience is available.

Most of the time we'd rather stay home because
- We're foodies and like cooking. So the grub is as good as most restaurants (if we want to work at it)
- The TV is massive so the "big screen" experience isn't as large a draw as it was once. The surround sound system is awesome, too, so...
- We can both enjoy a glass of three of wine as neither of us is driving
- There aren't any annoying kids kicking the seats or throwing popcorn about

Yes probably a bit of this too, It's too easy to just let work/other commitments take over and before you know it you are both living completely separate lives and just co-exist. I’m typing this at my desk at work for example (trying to wrap up some loose ends), if Tuesdays were our "date night" I would be home balls deep by now......... Don said:

I think part and parcel is this is the part I don't understand. I like cooking. Most part I can do a better job than an average restaurant. My TV is huge and like you I have the perfect surround. People feel the need to go and spend £25 to watch a film when I can sit indoors in relative peace, watch what I want and have no distractions.I usually take her to some film I desperately want to see at the cinema and then need to buy her an expensive dinner to make up.

Saying that. I've worded it wrong. We go out. But don't feel the need to "brand" our night out.

That's exactly my point, surely you are just forcing yourself to go out on a certain day rather than a spontaneous act of going out because you want to?
Hardly, we enjoy each others company, i work some long hours and it's a time to reconnect let our hair down (assuming I had any) and have some nights out like we used to do when we first met ... we are lucky that our 2yr old stays at her GrandMaMa's every Friday as well which helpsalorotom said:

But you don't label it "date night"?anonymous said:

^very much this, you can be as cycnical or as cordial as you like about it. It all means different things to different people, but making time in our 24/7 no relax society is a good place to start. We dont have date nights as such as we're out a couple of nights at least most weeks anyway but we have decided to make a point at least once a month to escape the smoke for at least a day together. Oh, and one mini-rule we have - no social media when we're together in the pub or a restaraunt!
I love a date night!!
We have two young children and no babysitters or family anywhere within 100 miles so we generally don't get to go out together. I think it's important and I miss just having that spontaneity to hit the town with the woman I love, to reconnect and to feel I think, like we once did. That life is exciting, about us, that the night out was all that was important for a brief moment.
Also, we have single friends. Neither of us want to be single, but when a friend comes round and tells us about an exciting first or second date, a funny story about a date, a saucy story. It surely reminds anyone in a family situation of a life that we no longer have a connection to, and that's always a little hard to take. A date with your wife and rolling round in a hotel for a night is about as close as I'm hopefully ever going to get to that. It's still exciting, if it's not you need to maybe do it more, or something that does excite you both.
£1000 a night date....... I'm not entirely sure that exists in Cardiff, but I'm intrigued at how you go about it even in London.
I think even I mixed a flash night in a hotel with the wife with a boys night on the booze, bag and clubs I'd still not hit a grand. It would be bloody good fun trying. What sort of things would you be doing on a 1k date night? I'd like to try it as long as its not just blowing 300 quid on a bottle of champagne or something.

You start by completely missing the point! It's about time together, reconnecting etc. Whether thats in a la-de-dah hotel, a 30 quid curry or homemade food and a movie on your own sofa is not material.
