Does anyone else not celebrate Christmas at all?
Discussion
For many years now I have been totally disillusioned with the ridiculous council-standard retail marathon that Christmas has become - I think it started when I worked in a department store while I was a student and therefore had Christmas rubbish pretty much rammed down my throat from about the end of August onwards - and over the last couple of years have pretty much stopped celebrating it altogether. I am not the slightest bit religious at all so don't see why I should make an exception just for one day, I don't ask people to buy me anything nor do I eat any fancy foods, and I usually spend the day alone (just like most other days actually) often prepping for the Boxing Day meeting at Mallory Park.
I know I may get some flak for posting this thread, but does anyone else not have anything to do with celebrating Christmas whatsoever?

I'm not religious and I hate the commercialism, and if I can arrange it I'll skip the whole thing and go skiing. But I do "believe" in presents and festivities for the children to enjoy, and I do rather like nice food. So I can find a silver lining.
You actually sound a bit depressed.

Christmas has long ceased to be a religious festival unless the deity being celebrated is Mammon.
It's now an opportunity for a few days off (unless you're unfortunate enough to work in retail) for excessive consumption and greed. Which is fair enough, if you like that sort of thing.
The aspect which I abhor is the large scale Disneyfication of the whole event and the fact that the hysteria starts in September, to allow for maximum brainwashing and pressure to be applied by retailers and junior participants whose sense of entitlement and greed ramps up over the three-month lead-up to the "big day".
Or it could be me being a touch cynical.

Not like the good old days of the 1960/70's...
All round the 19" B/W Tele for the Queen's speech at 3pm.
Then have sintillating chit chat with Aunty Doris who you haven't seen for exactly 12 months.
Followed by The Morecambe and Wise Christmas Special at 8pm.

I really enjoy Christmas.
I'm not religious, nor do we indulge in masses of gifts/presents anymore.
I look at it as a time to enjoy the company of friends and family and have a week or so off from the hectic rush of my business. Also a bit of extra indulgence in some nice food and drink
My parents made such an effort at Christmas for me and my brother, that I just have it instilled in me that it is such a happy time of the year.
I do worry about those who claim to dislike Christmas becuase they have no family or friends. It does sound like there is much more of an issue there than just Christmas itself.

I used to hate it and work over xmas, but with current Wife, I have learnt to really enjoy it, tbh Christmas day is just like having sunday dinner with a few extras, more booze and different music.
What I really like is the time off work so I can catch up with friends and family I have neglected over the year.
Noise cancelling earphones helps contain sanity levels with any shopping trips in December.

It seems to me that some go out of their way to pretend Christmas is some sort of dreadful experience that is forced upon them.
