I know it gets done to death every year, but I was gobsmacked to see a Christmas market already open for business in Southampton yesterday, and several houses with decorations up. I know the shops have been doing it for ages, and I know you can buy mince pies that are already out of date.

Somewhat incongruous to see people walking around a Christmas themed market place wearing poppies.

We've got 6 fecking weeks of this yet.

It's just one of those things I guess. The build up/anticipation is all part of the excitement/buzz of it all. I do agree though.

Fact Christ-mas is strung out for a full quarter of a year makes it intolerable. Thankfully being a friendless, family-less, relation-less 31 year old man limits my exposure to it, almost to nil.

I did think Sky launching their Christmas film channel on 5th November was ridiculous, but I quite enjoyed watching A Christmas Carol yesterday.

I don't mind the films but having spent a couple of my younger years in retail I'm very jaded and cynical about the "buy our stuff" campaign that starts at the end of October.

I think a lot of people already feel a lot of pressure over Christmas and I'm not sure 2 months of in your face ads on how to have the perfect Christmas and what to buy your kids helps much.

I can't stand trying to get around shops that are heaving, and having to endure Xmas songs all day ...that's why all the shopping is done and most of the presents are wrapped!smile

It's the depressing reality as well that irks me...

Heard '...chestnuts roasting on an open fire...' and for a split second imagined just that in a cosy, snow covered cottage somewhere... far away...

Split second passes and I realise I'm in friggin Asda in Blackpool... irked

Got a good one from my local paper, apparently our town councillors are stroppy teens: http://www.helensburghadvertiser.co.uk/news/148437...

Also; "Having read a little bit of criticism of Helensburgh's Christmas lights, I would say this: in 2009 you had nine Christmas lights. You now have 160."..."For those who have an issue with Christmas lights, well, the funding runs out in two years, so you won't have owt to worry about then.”. Apparently she manages money like a stroppy teenager too.

Apparently Christmas starts in mid- September in Leamington Spa, I was coasting down towards the station with my freight train one afternoon when I noticed a huge tree lit up like a bloody mothership in the back parlour of a house in Whitnash which is right next to the line. September for pity's sake!

I'll forgive John Lewis as they spend a fortune on their add - but the Aldi Christmas dinner advert is annoying me a lot.

That's local to me too...I thought they were up quite early but I'm bright enough to realise that they can't just be put up the night before the switch on!
