Notebooks (the paper type)
Discussion
I'm trying to get slightly more organised at work.
I don't have a desk full of paper but I'm a bit of a bugger for scrawling things on whatever random sheet of paper is laying around and I tend to have several spiral bound notebooks laying around where I simply cannot ever find the right notebook or the right page in it etc.
I don't really like those huge A4 notebooks that people turn up to meetings clutching, so I was going to try some of those small "pocket notebook" type notebooks in the hopes that they're small enough to keep on me but also robust/small enough to keep.
Anyone have any tips as I figure organisation and having a "system" plays a part in this?
And yes, first world problem, and yes, a 50p jotter does the same thing.

I work from home and have three different jobs, so keeping it organised is essential. I use one A5 spiral notebook at a time and keep it with me, writing everything in it, regardless of what it relates to. Write the date on the first page and try and write the date at the top of a new page every now and then, so you can keep track of what's happening each day/week. The notebooks last quite a long time and I keep them all in date order and never throw them away. So there will be phone numbers, lists, reminders etc going back several years if I need them, all in the pile of notebooks in my home-office. Everything goes in there, holiday plans, xmas lists, the whole lot.
I used to be the same, always losing notes that were on scraps of paper.
I now use a livescribe pen and notepads. I have different notebooks for home, work and when I'm on site. The pen creates a digital copy of each page meaning you can access any note book from your phone or computer. If my handwriting was neater it might transcribe my notes into word.

I used to use moleskine but paper chase are as good quality but thicker and more durable. I use square rules cos I is an engineer.
Write your to do list each day. Doesn't matter if it doesn't get finished and it's much he same list the day after, but it keeps you focused on your task list. All other jottings are just references and notes but your task list is a snapshot of where you are right now.

Have a look at the Leuchtturn Notebook and planners, better quality than Moleksine and has the ability to be indexed.

I have a notebook that slips into my breastpocket for taking notes when I'm out and about, a large A5 size pad of post it notes on my desk which I use one at a time and scribble random notes on. These I only throw away when I've crossed every bit of info through as 'dealt with'and transferred the info to where it needs to be. I've got an A5 spiral pad on bedside table to take info when I get called out in the middle of the night.
