Resprayer (of a wheelchair) giving the run-around
Discussion
Not me, but a contact from a forum for parents of kids who have, or had, life-limiting conditions.
Appears some shyster has taken money to respray the frame of her kid's wheelchair and is now failing to return the chair, or communicate with them about WTF is going on.
I'm sure I can remember PHers dealing with broadly similar shenanigans - any ideas, please?

Help and advice pls. Back on the 1st Oct we got in contact with a garage/bodywork shop in County Durham to respray my daughters second hand self funded wheelchair. She has an action junior supplied by NHS but I can't lift or push it due to its weight and she can't self propel it either. The chair we had (simba quickie) was perfect for all this and after using it for several months decided to get it resprayed for Christmas for her.
Anyway, we took it to the shop (who had volunteered to do the job) and everything seemed great. We agreed on a price and a time frame of a week.
Well, long story short the guy is refusing to give us her chair back. He's given us excuse after excuses, he's promised it's ready and when we've turned up to collect he's claimed it not dry yet, he's promised to deliver 6 times so far and hasn't turned up or even bothered to inform us he's not coming. He's never given us real reasons for any of this.
We've been over to his garage several times, 3 times at times arranged with him for collection and every time the shop has been shut and locked. We've also gone over unannounced but he claimed it wasn't ready and he'd deliver it next day (he didnt). When we said we'd just take it back anyway he claimed it wasn't there but with a mate for dipping. He made no overt threat but was quite intimidating.
He's now not answering his phone and police say it's a civil matter and they can't help.
We have never threatened him or threatened to withhold payment, we've not insulted him or anything but our daughter needs her wheelchair back! We have documented evidence of all texts emails etc to prove all of this.
I wondered if anyone had any advice? Citizens advice suggested the police who say they can't help unless he makes overt threats or physically abuses us! We were also told by a friend to seek legal advice but we can't afford it?
