The small family thread
Discussion
The small thread for small families.
Do you have a small family, if so just how small? Is there genuinely anyone with just themselves?
After this years death toll I was having a reckon up, I have:
One Mother who doesn't really care much, but we manage to get along just about.
A brother who is a dick and we don't speak.
An Aunt who has read the Daily Mail all her life.
A step uncle (is there such a thing?) Who I see maybe once or twice every 20yrs or so, mainly at funerals.
Two cousins I see unplanned now and again
One Nephew who I see about once every 7yrs
I think that is it: 8 of us all in all.

I'd say I have a fairly small family. I haven't seen parents for about 9 years, 2 brothers a bit longer. Grandparents are now dead, I have some Uncles / Aunts I haven't seen since I was a kid. I have my Mrs & son and MiL - she's got a couple of Uncles and an Aunt and that's about it.
So for what I'd consider "family" rather than people I can't help being related to, there's about 3 immediate and 3 other.
Works for me

I have a wife and 2 children. Don't speak to parents, the one surviving (I think, no one told me she is dead) grandparent or only brother. I have one uncle who remarried and has a small family through this marriage.
So those I consider to be 'my' family is the four of us, plus an uncle. Additional to that are a few more on the wife's side, including her parents, her brother and his family and a scattering of Aunts, uncles and cousins.

So including you: 5.
Wow, anyone less than 5?
Cuts down on the amount of presents and cards to buy I guess.

My parents are still alive and I have two sisters. Haven't seen any of them for about ten years+. Just me and my grown up daughter and I hope she'll move out soon.
For me it's pretty small - 6 including myself, 5 excluding me! - this is all known blood relatives too!
Mum & Dad, one Aunt and 2 brothers. No grandparents remain
Mum is an only child and my Aunt has no kids, neither do I or my two younger brothers....
Fairly small I guess!

Now I add my wife, 2 kids. Her parents, both her Nans, her 2 brothers and their wives (both have 3 girls), her sister and partner and their son. Family get togethers take a while to get over when I'm Uncle Fast Bug the climbing frame and have 9 kids hanging off me
