When I was growing up, jeans always came in leg lengths that were far too long.
My grandmother would shorten them to fit and keep the cut offs to patch the knees when they wore through, which they always did.

When the patches wore through, she'd cut the back pockets off to make new patches.

And we didn't even live in Yorkshire
